In fact in my opinion of what I saw, in absolutely any shooting conditions will be better 808 (included night shots) !

Honestly, the only camcorder in 1020 will be higher than this in 808 and yet this superiority only exist because of the OIS!

Comparison: Pentax 645D (______Abyss____) Nokia 808. Is not fair of course.

What i see in the all about symbian comparison is that the 1020 produce sharper pictures. I like sharp pictures ! lol

The thing i don't like is the exagerated yellow tint a bit like some xperia phones.

I thinking that 1020 produce better/pleasant pictures in more situations than the 808 in auto mode without settings...and 1020 is worse than 808 for the symbian cameraphone's lovers.

You could make the 808 pics as sharp or as saturated as the 1020, but its very hard to get rid of the noise and grain present on the 1020 pics.

The auto mode on the 1020 is inferior overall.. the overasampling algorithm is not as good.

To get the most out of the 1020, you need to shoot in full resolution, and the post process on a PC.. that is the only way to even get close to the 808 in terms of overall IQ.

Yes but...

And nearly all the pictures taken with 1020 of all about symbian comparison are sharper than the 808.

This picture however with bright light !

Do not believe it my friend, this comparison was totally unfair and biased, since the camera was set up in 1020 to take pictures with super fine quality, while 808 took photos in fine quality !

P.S: I prefer to wait for posting photos Cu015170, Sylwester and Sassho who are excellent photographers know and realize a fair comparison !

Funny that you accuse AllAboutSymbian of being unfair to the 808, while I read on Twitter, that most people accuse the tester of the exact opposite, i.e. being unfair towards the 1020!
So who is biased here then ?

The 808 pics on AAS are all with 85% jpeg compression vs 95% on the 1020.

The 808 has to be set to superfine jpeg settings, which is when u get the best quality. Also, the sharpness levels which were used for the 808 are unknown. The 1020 does not have adjustable sharpness levels, so.. you get what it "thinks" its best for you.

There are plenty of examples here on esato.. the 808 can produce pretty sharp images if you so desire.

That being said, the 1020 might be sharper to begin with.. I mean the optics and the sensor in general, not just the processing.

I honestly do not understand all this skepticism !

No longer reason to doubt that the 808 is better than 1020 !

Once at least in theory, the 808 has better software and better hardware !

Remember 808 has a larger image sensor (1/1.2 "), more powerful xenon flash (4 meters), best photography menu and order a better post processing !

PS: But as I said earlier, I prefer to believe in the examples posted here on Esato, than those placed on these sites sponsored by manufacturers !

sonysta I think you might be right man.. we will have to wait for at least another 12 months before we get a real 808 replacement. The more I see from the 1020 the more I think that it isn't it..

Anyway, here I just took this with the 808 for this post

nd filter off, sharpness to +5, 95% jpeg compression, everything else on auto.

sharp enough ?

I can get it even sharper if I play around with the contrast and white balance a bit. I think when people say that the 1020 produces sharper images they are confusing edge sharpening with actual "sharpness"

So.. I really like Steve and I appreciate all his work over the years, but that little comp of his is BS for the most part.

Thanks for the quote !

Actually I think like you, to replace our 808 only in the next generation (which it seems will come in February 2015), 808 there will continue to be king of the image, I think the biggest difference is restricted in the 1020 recording videos !

I don't know what kind of magic 808 uses but it's photos are just amazing! 1020 just does not come close.

As for the next generation, I would not hold my hopes up, it seems Nokia really likes the terrible algorithms they have on WP. Unless they fix that and make it as good as Symbian's all Lumias will be bad.

If they fix it, then there is the hardware and sensor size issue. 1020's successor should come faster than 2015, I'd say 2014, as Lumia 1025 and if it does not have a 1" sensor, ND Filter and other goodies they might as well not bother.

The magic was in the idea and the realization of it.. the actual thing is just a very good sensor, solid jpeg processing, and very.. very well engineered optics from CZ, or in other words.. recipe for good imaging.

The 1020 is good, its just not as good as the 808.

A 1" sensor would be very nice, but the phone will be a fatty..

Nokia usually performs an upgrade on your cameraphone "flagship" 18 in 18 months, at least that's what happened to the N95 the N82, the N82 to N86, the N86 to the N8, the N8 for the 808 and now the 808 to 1020 !

So the guess of February 2015 for the next big Nokia cameraphone !
