@zombiecat .. sounds like your battery is flat.
When it's BROD it won't charge, so you'd need to get a desktop charger (I got 2 batteries and a charger for a few quid on ebay)
kulankendi should then find it when the battery has charged which should fix it, although needs a full format.
Thanks for the advice dude; unfortunately it's not a dead battery that's causing the problem Used a fully-charged battery from a W580i, no dice I'm afraid... |

This happened to my phone without having BROD first. I did have the same red light on the top of the phone, and neither Davinci or Wotan recognized it, just SEUS but then it couldn't do anything.. I had to send it to Sony to fix.
Good luck.
Thanks mate. Looks like this is the only option. Phone actually belongs to the company I work for, so no worries. Maybe I should just take the bloody thing outside and stamp on it anyway In the meantime, it's back to my trusty P990i (it's bilingual T9 kicks ass |

Tomorrow my phone will have one month since the purchase date. During this period I have experienced exactly 4 (four) reboots, none of them unrecoverable. The phone rebooted once while adjusting the equalizer in media player, once when I was looking at my pictures using "Media" menu and switched to next and previous picture (way too fast for its processing power), once while searching for bluetooth enabled devices in order to send a file. I can't remember the circumstances of the fourth reboot.
My device is a December 2007 edition and so far did not accumulate any dust under the camera lens cover or under the screen cover.
FW version is R1DA038.
I wrote to Sony Ericsson AB, explained what BROD is and asked them if they have heard about this strange problem. The first reply was gibberish as they completely avoided the answer, instead giving me directions about how to update my FW. I wrote back, asking them again about BROD and making it clear that I know how to update the phone's software but I am afraid to do it because it might render the phone unusable. The very next day (today, that is) they answered. Guess what they said: the last software version available for the Sony Ericsson K850i is R1DA.
I'm baffled. According to them, R1EA does not exist. Chew on that, K850i users!

Hmm - although if they're saying R1DA is the latest version that would at least fit with what Carphone Warehouse were saying to me. Is it an unbranded phone you have?

@catalinux
My best bet is that someone at sony spill the beans on the up coming firmware which will probably carry the R1DA serial because if you carefully look at it its not making to much of sense but again as we acustom doing we wil continue to do so which is wait and see, so for all we know update is probably in its final stage getting ready to launch ... just hope I am right

Picked up another k850i with 031 already installed, went to update it and it says there is no update available, so possibly a new firmware is on the way?

here's hoping so! Bring on R3 to say goodbye to BROD, improve the camera and stabilise it

I'm sorry but this is a VERY isolated opinion. the EA037 has one GLARING flaw - potential for BROD on considerable number of K850's out there. That's not a stable firmware by any stretch of the imagination. I've gone back to CA037 since mid February, when 031 BROD-ed for the 2nd time and since then I've had my phone reboot Three Times... That's about once a month! There are a ton of people on this board alone, not to mention out there who have EA037 and have had it reboot for absolutely no reason what so ever. At least mine (CA037) only rebooted when I overloaded the system and then it came right back up...

It's not about how much it costs, but the fact that i need to spent €8 or €10 to fix a €450 phone, JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE TOO F*CKING LAZY TO FIX THE F*CKING PROBLEM.
Not to mention that i now have to go back to the R1CA037 firmware, and all the bugs that came with it.
We don't even know how long it's gonna take SE to release a NON-BROD fw...so i might be stuck with all the f*cking bugs once again.. AND I MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT FOR A 'GOOD', NON-BUG FW, ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my 850i is much more stable than it was before after updating to R1EA037. so far no BROD. however my phone does get stuck and reboot by it self once in a while when i use the camera or use bluetooth.. i really hope SE releases a new Firmware that solves all these bugs. i really love the K850i but i wish it was more stable. |

im now on my 3rd k850, and thats getting picked up to go back to o2 today, im sick of the constant restarts and being cut off during phone calls. Been givin then option of a w910, lg viewty or n95, went with the n95 because i do use the camera and i cant use a touch screen, having had sony ericsons for at least the last 7 years im having no choice but to change since there isnt anything else by them that is in the same league. |

I had 3 BRODs (on R1EC001, R1EA031 and R1EA037)
now I'm on R1DA038 and same as you I'm waiting for a non-BROD-causing FW...
