I dont really know why everybody is worrying about the UI so much. Just look at what SE has already changed for G700 and G900. Looks really nice, better usability with fingers and in my opinion very "Flashy" (read MR's review of G700, he seems pretty impressed). I am not worried that the new UI on the P5 will live up to and exceed the expectations!

Since P990, all UIQ 3 models have transition effects in menu, it was furtherly refurbished with the advent of W960, G700, and G900 with the addition of the XMB Media UI and panesl screens. even the very boring WM6 UI has been blessed with flashy effects as we have seen with the Xperia X1. as i discerns it from generation to generation UIQ interface is evolving. and with mizzle's statement that the UIQ 3.3 proto he saw long ago had very lengthy animations and transitions i'm very sure Paris(P5) will have better eyecandies as well. also knowing SE as the pioneer for interface eyecandies ever since. we do remember when T68 outshines competitors interface with it's theme support, K700 with animated menus, K750 with 75% of the entire UI being animated and K850 to it's XMB media menu.

true ...its just the basic default UIQ 3.3 that looks boring im sure SE will customize it to make it flashy

It's said before, is working on closing the gap between OSE & UIQ, and I believe the UI & User experience are two of the most important things to work with, they started with some basic moves like soft keys, and now we have d-pad too, they started with Software with XMB and so on, but they need to do some hardware before going on with more software changes

After reading all the post in the few previous pages, I must say that Paris is really disappointing. It isn't as feature-laden as I expected it to be. No flashy interface. No DVB-H support. It has quite a small screen and a MEDIOCRE camera. Although nothing has been comfirmed yet, just tips from USEB, I can't think any to look forward to.

Peter Kay said that it's worth the wait for Paris, but I don't think that's the case. Not to take away something from the guy, but maybe Paris features are enough for him ,or too much - to each his own.

I really hope Paris has more to offer. I want to be suprised: I want to be pleased, when it is announced. If not, well I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Thank goodness Iphone2 is coming and Nokia "TUBE" as well. Those two phones will surely meet my expectation. Oops..I almost forgot to mention Skarven.

@rss:

Sorry for opposing your opinion mate but i think you haven't seen iPhone 2 and Nokia Tube's specs yet and you're expecting it to be the phone that could live to your expectations and P5 won't be, that seemed kinda biased to nokia and apple. or perhaps you've seen/tested the three upcoming phones already?

How can you say it's camera is mediocre? have you seen the sample image quality? or you're just basing your facts on preconceptions

And why did you persist to believe Paris' UIQ 3.3 UI wont be flashy?

I believe that the innovation in p5 lies somewhere surrounding the 5-way pad where there is a big area being blurred in the pics.. maybe there's an improvised naviwheel, or touchpad, or secondary display, who knows?

With regards to the Emilie Dpad, I think it would be an amazing success. It's a great idea to seperate the up/down & left/right, when the dpad is small. It looks great too!

Now when people have commented that there is no flashy effects, you do realize it's still a prototype and will be in testing until the final product in September. There is no need to add on simple transitions and "gimmicks" when it's used for testing purposes. I'm pretty sure the final product will have basic transitions loke the ones we see on the C902. At least in Mizzle's first pic, the UI still looks promising.

Mizzle said there's nothing blurred in the pic.

I Think that this area holds something similar to the Walkman Control touch bottons in the W960i, they becomes active when the Walkman player is activated and had teh focus.
but I donno, it's just a guess

Ok, what? Nobody can say yet what the interface is like, I heard DVB-H is not even worth having that for another 2 years due to it not really being supported yet, and how is a 2.8" screen small? Thats a pretty big screen by me. What did you expect it to be? Also, 5 MP is certainly not a mediocre camera, 2MP maybe, but not 5. 5 is as big as you'll gat at the moment and thats what Paris has always been rumoured to have! How can you expect more?

How can you speculate about how bad that Paris will be, then say the iPhone2 and Nokia Tube will be good? We know nothing on the specs of those devices besides a touch screen and 3G.

I can't wait for mobile TV to appear, both SE and Nokia have been collaborating on this (DVB-H) for a good while now.

MP is not everything dude... You know that... 5MP in paris doesn't mean it's good... And going by SE's strategy, it will be only average in quality wise...

To razec and muhammad, you're taking my post "literally". Try to read between the lines. It's just all speculation based on what I have read and gathered!

Thanx man, I have the feeling that you guess it right Wow seems there's plenty of space in P5 for more of those buttons! But I haven't played with W960i yet. Do the buttons you mention in W960i have mechanical click?
