In this review of 1IV he actually says that he encountered no overheating issues.
Wow! Hope he's holding the real distribution handset and hope this is true! |

Its fairly easy to understand: the phone throttles the 8G1 so much (half the performance) thats its barely generate enough heat , to the point of sustained performance only equals the old 865/870 chip. Ofcourse in daily use and camera works the phone is so powerful you wont notice it being gimped Kinda like you paid for the V8 engine but in real life only V4 because the radiator cant keep up
Its Sony being Sony and they wont do extra and put serious cooling system to fully ultilize the chip, unless you are a pro and buy the PRO model |

Just a confirmation that PDX-224 or "5IV" as you guys called it is indeed using 8G1 instead of 8G1+ (same as 1IV, using Sony 8G1 "Nagara" platform). I poked around with it
Camera specs is nothing new from what you guys know. |

Also I can confirm the 1IV tele sensor is IMX650 thats cropped and binned from 40MP to 12MP (I had the datasheet ) The sensors are all Sony but the camera module not actually made by Sony, its 1x LG Innotek + 2x Samsung Electro-Mechanics + 2x Sunny |

According to gsmarena, I IV uses IMX650 on the telephoto lens, do you think Sony is cropping again here or uses pixel binning on top of optical zoom?
Gsmarena and I was right, the telephoto is a new sensor & pixel binning on top of the optics
Thank you for confirming @spektykes

Isn't imx 650 1/1.7"? 1IV uses 1/3.5" which should use only around 10mp of that 40. No wonder that footage was blurry as f.
Instead of binning it quite possibly is interpolating to 12mp. |

People at reddit, are now bombarding me with questions about how that is physically possible. |

What an idiot
Here is something that you can prove, in the fw of Xperia 1IV. You can also check this with the real device too. |

Saw last week article on eprice taiwan , a screenshot of the HW Info app. The info of 650.
85/47 = 1,8085
1,8085 x 1,8085 = 3,27
40/3,27 = 12,23
Full sensor would be behind 47mm (FF equiv) lens. It is bayer CFA as I remember from Huawei phones, Mate 30 series maybe. Let me guess, it is cheaper than buying new 1/3.5" exmor and putting behind 85mm. 😒 |

spektykles,
Assuming PDX-224 is Xperia 5 IV, any new information regarding 221、222? |

Its too soon to talk about them. Both are planned to be released in 2023 (announced very late 2022). I suspects one of them will be cancelled as always
Also the last planned 1III variant (eSIM variant) is cancelled too AFAIK |

Nothing new for now, beside I can confirm that 10 IV Sim-free Japanese variant exists.
And correction to the previous claim of the that cancelled 1III, I just learn its a KDDI au variant with 5G SA capability (PDX-215_K1SA), not eSIM variant as I previous claimed.

Is the Xperia 5iv going to have curved sides like the 5iii or is it going to be flat like 1iv? That's all I need to know please. |
