Did you take into account that the image is not taken from a straight on angle? (Although, if you didn't, then it would just mean the screen is even bigger right?)
I am not really good at working out exactly how you can work this out, but that should be a factor right?

@muh....oli
it makes no difference whether i took the alignment into account or not... (but yes i did)
(((( ^^ in this kind of relative comparison ONLY ))))
cause if the alignment was even worse that this; then the relative size between the whole lenght and the screen lenght is still constant...
but thanks for your concern.

I've found the same result: 2.8 inches.

so i think that the screen size problem has been solved:
2.8" with nearly no doubt.
the question that will remain till the announcment::
What is the screen resolution? VGA is more likely

Just a quick update on the latest device for the Japanese market. The SO906i that was mentioned earlier is to become the SO906iU - although what the significance of the 'U' is is not known at this stage.
There is also planned an even higher version of the SO906i which will be an update of the SO905iCS and is to have an even larger screen as well as lots of software & multimedia tweaking.
Announcement schedule not known at this stage.

I think it's a possibility. A possibility with a chance of 0.0000000000000001% |

Awesome with the math. With that size of a screen, VGA seems more likely, since 2.8" is the point, in my opinion, when QVGA begins to look bad. |

Agreed...
and considering that it has the google maps pre-loaded; then it needs the sharpness of a VGA screen so the maps would be readble.
and yes.... QVGA is a little low for a 2.8" screen (as i can see on my P990).... so i think it will be VGA.
btw... thanks man.... i did those calculations because the hands on that pic seems photoshop added. (or those are very big hands).... |

More likely the phone is photoshop added, just like every other SE official picture.

well the p990 had a screen slightly smaller than p910i(2.76" compared to 2.8") so if the screen is as big as my p910i's then i will definitely get this phone!!
by the way, a silly question possibly, but will the phone have t9 dictionary text input mode? that would make me 100% wanna buy it! |

They PS their own pictures? I don't think I knew that...or maybe I did.
Though if this is true, it's impossibly to claim it's a "small" screen based on relative size to the hands, if the hands and the phone are separate from each other. Therefore, I will believe chombos's math over appearances.

yes i can spot a lot of official pictures with the phone has been added to them...
besides... i wanna do some other analyses with my hands... holding a 20cm ruler (just the same position as the pic).... to see how true is this pic in terms of proportions.....

Yeah they definitely do. They of course do a good job of it, cause they can't have it looking crap. So most people won't know they are photoshops. Sometimes I really have to look close to spot it, but usually they are just a bit too perfect to be real, or there's a slight mistake on the angles. I know the G900 official pic had a pretty bad error in it. I'll see if I can find it.
EDIT: Here it is, not as bad as I remembered, but this is the bottom of the image of the left side. You can see the texturing is a bit screwed up. Note also the rest of it is a bit too perfect to be real.
