my orange k700 has no joystick shortcuts at all. only the down direction ones which go to the shortcuts on the screen.

this is a serious screw up by orange.... what happens if the button on the joystick fails? you have no way of getting to the desktop icons at least on the t610 you can just flick the joystick right and you are on the first icon on the desktop. i believe the t68 was the same too. i just hope they fix it soon as well as the extra camera button they added by taking the more button away.

Actually there is a way of accessing the desktop menu without using the joystick, though it's somewhat long-winded.

If you press * as if you were locking the keys, then press * again you'll notice that it says 'more' under the right softkey. If you press that key a menu will appear, the first option of which is 'main menu.' Press the 1 key and it'll take you to the desktop.

In short - * * right softkey 1

Hope this helps

cool thanks for that! bit long winded tho. i had an argument with an orange muppet yesterday about it. he says that orange put features into the software that the phone may not support. errmmm he obviously didnt have a clue. he claimed orange write the software for the phone. when i started correcting him he tried to pass me onto someone else. why dont they just say i dont know.... i'll try and find out... instead of trying to weedle their way out of the situation?

orange have taken functionality out.. and there is no reason for it.

Having just come off the phone to orange where i also spoke to one of their resident morons i was informed that it was in fact SE's fault and not orange!! Can you belive it. I was also informed that there does not appear to be any firm plans to remedy the shortcuts issue which i find quite incredible with so many people unhappy.

Does this ** to get to 'More' also let you turn on/off silent/Bluetooth and status etc

So is the only way to get 'silent' and turn Bluetooth on and off to go to the main menu and navigate through Profiles or Connectivity?

I've managed to get Orange to agree to let me put the original SE software onto my Orange branded phone. Both Orange ad SE seemed to think it would work. It's in the shop now, I'll let you all know how it goes...

you can hold the c or hash for silent, and yeah to turn on bluetooth youve got to go throught the menu's. I tend to use keyboard shortcuts for easy access e.g. for bluetooth i press in the joystick and press 7,2,1 to turn on and the same to turn off. Ive remembered a few of these which makes my life easier, htough not as easy as having a more button and joystick shortcuts

i sent the people at orange an email:

I have just bought a K700i and have noticed a few things that are slightly odd
about it:

1. There are some rather intrusive icons on the standby screen which I would
like to get rid of.

2. In your user guide you give instructions as to how to alter shortcuts. After
following these explicitly I have found that there is no 'shortcuts' option in
the 'settings' menu.

Please could you give me some feedback as to why this is and how to fix it.

they sent this back.

Dear George

Thank you for your mail and informing me you have purchased a K700i and have a
couple queries regarding this phone.

I am sorry to learn that you are unhappy with the icons that appear on the
standby screen.

I have contacted our Ringtones & Logos department who have advised it may be
possible to download an alternative screensaver or logo, which may replace the
ones you currently have.

I have attempted to contact the manufacturer for confirmation on this, but they
are currently unavailable. There contact number if you wish to call them is
08705 237 237 Once connected choose option 2 .

Regarding your comments on the instructions given in the user guide 'how to
alter shortcuts'.

May I offer my apologise and advise you, the user guide for the Sony Ericsson
K700i does contain an error as the 'shortcut' feature is not currently available
on this model of phone.

Since this error has been highlighted, Orange are putting a stop press
announcement in the guidebooks, advising of this error, but it would appear that
you may have received an early version of the guidebook.

Orange Technical Directorate are currently investigating why this menu option
and function was removed and if it will be restored in the near future.

I apologise, I do not have any further details available on this issue at
present.

I trust my response is of assistance to you.

Kind Regards

Sharon

Please tell us how you managed this. What shop do you go to, Orange or SE?

Emailed Orange today and look at the terse reply I got:

Thank you for your mail regarding the Sony Ericsson K700i

I am sorry to advise a business decision was made, that you are unable to set the shortcuts for the joystick.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Kind regards

Christine
