unless you are willing to pay about 30 quid for this it doesnt seem as if they are going to do that for you. from my experience, nobody wants to budge in changing it, not even good old cpw. i sent them an email:
I have just bought a K700i and have noticed a few things that are slightly odd
about it:
1. There are some rather intrusive icons on the standby screen which I would
like to get rid of.
2. In your user guide you give instructions as to how to alter shortcuts. After
following these explicitly I have found that there is no 'shortcuts' option in
the 'settings' menu.
Please could you give me some feedback as to why this is and how to fix it.
they sent this back.
Dear George
Thank you for your mail and informing me you have purchased a K700i and have a
couple queries regarding this phone.
I am sorry to learn that you are unhappy with the icons that appear on the
standby screen.
I have contacted our Ringtones & Logos department who have advised it may be
possible to download an alternative screensaver or logo, which may replace the
ones you currently have.
I have attempted to contact the manufacturer for confirmation on this, but they
are currently unavailable. There contact number if you wish to call them is
08705 237 237 Once connected choose option 2 .
Regarding your comments on the instructions given in the user guide 'how to
alter shortcuts'.
May I offer my apologise and advise you, the user guide for the Sony Ericsson
K700i does contain an error as the 'shortcut' feature is not currently available
on this model of phone.
Since this error has been highlighted, Orange are putting a stop press
announcement in the guidebooks, advising of this error, but it would appear that
you may have received an early version of the guidebook.
Orange Technical Directorate are currently investigating why this menu option
and function was removed and if it will be restored in the near future.
I apologise, I do not have any further details available on this issue at
present.
I trust my response is of assistance to you.
Kind Regards
Sharon

Here's the story...
I phoned Orange about the SMS alert screen not appearing, you just get "message (1)" appear next to the little icon. After a week they agreed to replace the phone. The replacement had the same problem (obviously cos it's Orange's software that knackered it). So, the guy I spoke to as good as admitted that they can't fix it and probably never will, it'll just be put down to an "updated feature". He agreed that it should work so he phone SE for me to see if they could install the original software. They said yes and it's at my nearest store now getting changed... |

From the reply from Orange I think their customer support is doing quite good job (at least they try to help and actually read your email) |

Orange never replied back to my email! I await with great interest whether Philsmall's to revert is successful! |

I phoned SE yesterday and tried a blag saying that orange had directed me towards them. It looked promising until i found out my nearest service centre was 100 miles away. He then said take it to Carphone Warhousem (in the UK) and they will do a software update for you if you say SE sent you.
Seems a bit dubious to me at best. Se said my second option was to phone the service centre number and arrange to have my phone sent away for an update. I'm wary this though, has anyone else sent their phone away for an update?

No idea, the guy was a spanner, he had to get a map to find out where Bristol was!!
Best would be to phone them (the number is on the support area of the website) but be prepared for to give a geography lesson to what ever monkey answers the phone...
