"bumping" a thread means adding a reply for the sake of bringing the thread to other people's attention (by putting it in the recent/new posts list) without actually adding content.
i.e. you "bumb" it up the list

Playing for others has allways been a no no... 
Bumping this topic yesterday was done because Deanlambert PMed me and could not find the scoreboard. No wonder really... He was on WAP and there had been no replies to it for about 5 houres.
As gelfen said: by "bumping" it I brought it up on top of the list of new posts. Ie: first page on WAP.
