P800 R2A Upgrade |

Just taken my P800 to Intec in Barnet to have firmware upgraded.
Intec, Barnet (020 8216-3896) are far end of Moxon Street just off the Barnet High Street near Church.
Had R1B on it. Hopefully will be updated to latest R2D or whatever the latest version is. Takes 24 hours. They require phone, mem card & battery. Don't need simcard or stylus.
Using previous phone, N6310i, as backup while without P800.
Currently on T-Mobile, phone is sim-free.
Will report software versions when I pick it up tomorrow. And what is new or different.

Why take it to INTEC in Barnet and let them have it for 24 hours?
Take it to R's Electrics on the Tottenham High Road in London (0208 808 1498), just near White Hart Lane, they only take two hours to do the update.
Got mine done today, and it has updated it to R2D with all the new bells and whistles!! |

I got my P800 on Saturday, it was on Orange, and from the latest batch of supposedly bug fixed phones.
PDA S/W R1F01
Phone S/W R1D
Bluetooth S/W R2C
CDA S/W R2A01
Is this the latest version that's just been released? If not, is it a particularly buggy version? Obviously it's Orange's own modified one.
If I need an update, there's a place in Birmingham that did my T68 to T68i update while I waited, and they book you in so you don't have to hang around for ages if they are busy. |

R's don't charge for warranty updates (i.e. first year of having the phone). However, they're being kept quite busy by all the updates people are going in for. They're not best pleased when someone comes in with a T68 AND a P800 either. When I went to get mine done today, they asked if I had a T68, because everyone else seemed to be asking for that. It was done within 90 minutes, and I'm now the happy owner of R2D firmware... Am just trying to restore a backup to see what happens. Have made a post-upgrade backup in case this doesn't work... |

I didnt have to pay anything for the update at R's either, and I have now restored my pre-update backup successfully with no problems at all. The new firmware is great!
I have noticed an improvement in the image quality on the camera, the delivery reports are there, as is the night mode for the camera and the widescreen viewing options on both pictures and video which is very cool.
My GPRS seems to have sped up a fair bit as well, pages loading a lot quicker. Now all that remains to be seen is whether they fixed the MMS bug or not.... |

This is the email that I sent to R's electrics so seems odd that they have written that its chargeable and yet some people on here have done theirs and not been charged.....

To the person who stated he can't understand why people are getting annoyed at having to re-install software after an upgrade, it is because this is shitty design. I have had a Nokia 9110 and XDA and all have been flash upgraded, but I have never had to do anything other than restore a backup, which is exactly how it should be.
Flashing a ROM and then having to reinstall apps as the restore would overwrite files is just plain bad design. Period.
