Yes in that review the SE won nearly on every score in terms of picture quality and features. |

Hang on i thought purple fringing only appeared on the edges with a bright white coloured background like a white sky. Thats what i only ever seen.
Actually, purple fringing happens everywhere, but you only see it at places where there is a sharp transition between very bright and very dark.In the part of plank's pic vipera showed, there is some fringing to be seen at the edges of the metallic ring (or metallic painted ring). Very weak, but still to be seen.
But you will see purple fringing even on the most expensive digicams photos, because it is inherent to the way a picture is focused on and recorded by the sensor. And the smaller the distance between the lens and the sensor, the larger the amount of fringing.

Yes i guess your right. I buy Digital Camera Buyer every month and they say it in most reviews some worse than others. The worst purple fringing i ever seen was my old Nokia 6300 which was a good phone with a poor camera anyway. I took picture of the sea with white sky and the whole pic came out a horrible mix of purple white and pink. White balance never fixed it. Oh well. |

You dont always need colorful scenarios and perfect lighting for a great pic. Here are quick shots of everyday stuff.
I'm concern about N82 not-very-accurate color reproduction, but it beats C902 in terms of detail, sharpness (C902 pics are sharp, maybe too sharp. Use the photoshop sharpening tool repeatedly in a single spot and you will get a oversharpened pic, i refer to that.) and night mode.
The loss of detail when using the flash even in very poor lighting conditions is very low, the night portrait mode of the N82 is beyond any other cellphone's.
@Plank: i didnt tried to flame you or anything similar, just following this thread's topic and prove which one is better and why. I like very much your landscape pictures and i wish my phone could produce those colors.
I know it is pretty annoying to navigate and scroll through the 5mp pic, so here i post:
RESIZED DOWN 1024x768 PICS WITH FULL SIZE CROP.
Night portrait with flash
I dont think you guys need a full size of my girlfriend.

At least you dont have to scroll to see the focused point.
I know is hard for a 800x600 res screen =P. |

so i bought the magazin. the test is quite large (4 pages), and its done by a real photographer.
C902 was better overall. (build quality, true color-reproduction, details, screen-color-reproduction, etc,)
(they had a indoor picture taken inside a church taken by N82, C902 & Olympus E-420...and C902 picture had quite much better quality then N82, you see it straight away)
some pics;
results.........quote; "the detail was exceptional for a mobile, etc"

Plank, have you read this review by Eldar? No?
http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-c902-en.shtml
Let me quote him some.
We’ll also put it up against the finest mass-market solution out there – the Nokia N82, and I suppose there is not much left to say.
Don’t view the C902 as an imaging-centric solution, though, since it ends up behind the Sony Ericsson K850i, Nokia N82 and some other phones, let alone the Motorola ZN5 that will be second to none this way.
And how do you know that the n82 had the latest firmware in the magazine review?

does it even mather.........
C902 beat N82 in everything; overall image quality, build quality & features/functions...........end of story.
ps. im quite sure both phones had quite new (full working) firmwares. (the test is made recentley..not 6 months ago). but just for you, i will look again and see if they mention which firmware they use...ok
pss. i give a ratass what you think about my judgement...this is from a proffesionel review...just let it melt a bit and realize C902 won...he he
