Good info. And no one shouldn't fiddle around with the phon because you risk voiding the warranty. Good on you that you managed to fix it though!
Yes one might wonder why they cuoldn't seal it any better. It's not like it's the firs phone or camera ever built! Hope that they will get info from SE how to fix this more properly when you leave it at the service centre! |

You would really have to know what you are doing to clean it yourself. Too dangerous for me...
Well I'v had mine a few days now and no dust yet...I also keep it loose in my pocket with out anything to protect it.
I bought it from the se distributer and they said they will happily clean it if ever has any specs.
As it seems to be a newer one I am hoping they have fixed this already problem already.
I am starting to warm up to the dust cover because the shutter does not open by accident like on the k800i and w800i.

I was annoyed by dust just piling up under the glass cover. At first I thought "easy come, easy go" but nooo.
I discovered that its just a glass circle that is sticked in the cover and its not hard to remove it. Thats what I did, removed it, cleaned (wooohhh... that was hard) and put back.
I don't reccommend you try to do that because I sure wont do that again.
When they were sticking it to the cover I wonder why didn't they seal it any better.
how did you remove it?

I'd had my K850 for 3 days and noticed dust under the lens cover... phoned CPW and they said bring it in to replace it no problem. Been waiting for stock for a week now so they ordered a new one for tomorrow.
Looking at the lens now - there is a huge amount of dust in there. And I keep my phone pretty clean and take good care of it (well its new )...
My K800 is well over 12 months old and has about a qtr of the dust I gained within the first 3 days of the K850's life. After 12 months I doubt I will be able to see the lens at all.
Hope the new one is better as I may well go down the iPhone route even though its locked to O2 (weak signal for them at home) and not on Orange. |

Well if so many people are having this problem I think exchanging the phone is only delaying the inevitable, and not by much if it only takes a few days to get dust in there. |

Well we will see if CPW have a new batch and that new batch are any better. My box was very scratched too, so maybe I got given one of the first they had ??
The camera is great but I am considering living without it unless SE fix this and the software issues listed elsewhere in the forum...
Volume buttons not working for long - have to restart to get them going again
Random crashes when using camera
Soft keys very stubborn at times
Very slow GPRS
My K800 was/is very robust (dropped many times), doesn't crash, has a bit of dust after over 12 months of being in my pocket, never crashes - did I mention that already |

I wish to know that too. With something keen? Isn't dangerous?

With my fingernail. There is a small gap between the silver ring and the camera glass. Try to push your nail through, as you do it just pull the glass out, slowly because its a soft glue thats holding the glass.
Cleaning it is very hard. It attracts dust like a dust-magnet.
The worst scenario is that you touch the inner side of the glass with your finger. There is no way to completely remove the print. A smudge will stay.

It seems to be a genaral policy to say that they have nerver heard of a certain problem. Sure, in some cases the model is new and feédback hasn't reached SE yet. But i remember other issues that they just plainly denie to protect themselves. The dust issue got spread quickly so soon the should not be able to honestly say that they haven't heard of it. |

yeah...i dunno what's more annoying...the dust under my camera lens or SE's blatant denial
after another 24 hours, i realised the dust bits have invited more buddies and they've shifted so there's definitely a gap SOMEWHERE...i'm gonna have to bring it to a service centre in person and demand they fix it i guess...sigh. but that opens another can of worms, they might open the phone up and invite more dust buddies...

Ok... got my new replacement K850 today and the build quality is far far better.
No creaking (its a noise for those that don't know ) loose screen, rear speaker is flat against the plastic (last one had gaps), battery/SIMM cover is a much tighter fit.
All in all it seems to be built better and has a more solid feel.
Finger crossed that dust monster will be kept out.
Same FW as initial release so still expect the bugs... |

hey guys+gals. i haven't read all the 5pgs worth of complaints and resolutions but i have an idea...i currently have the se w850 and previous se phones. i plan on getting the k850 despite the unresolved issues (which probably could be fixed with a flash). as far as dust goes my suggestion is this. if anyone owns a pair of Oakley sunglasses you should have a microfiber sack that came with the pair (if not you could go to your nearest oakley store and ask for one). i've used that microfiber sack on numerous things including my phone and will HELP prevent dust from getting in the phone (esp if you keep it in your pocket/pocketbook) and will also help alleviate finger print problems (it cleans rather well). anyway this is just a suggestion.
just remember...this does NOT alleviate the dust problem completely but will aide your fight for a dust-free phone/cam |
