Though I probably won't get it till Wed at the earliest, the seller's sending it second class (!) and there are various postal strikes in parts of the country so it quite possibly will be towards the end of the week before I get the phone

I'm also waiting for a W550i which I bought for a tenner which I'm hoping just needs the swivel re-attaching and screwing back in, which still hasn't arrived btw!

I know this is the k550 thread but i debranded my w610i yesterday(it was orangified!). It's great i've got the horizontal flash menus now and i can finally run apps in the background! Something that the orange firmware wouldn't let me do! 
I use DavinciTeam and it was so simple! There also a news story on there about loading the w610 firmware onto a k550i! Someone should try it! You don't loose anything(apart from the cam not automatically starting when you open the lense cover) just gain walkman2.0!!

Finally got my K550i today!
First impressions - great looking phone, though I'm a bit dissapointed with the camera, though that could just be because I've been spoilt by the 3mp camera on the K800i! 
The keypad isn't as bad as people have made out, and one thing I won't miss from the K8 is the damn camera shutter coming open all the time in my pocket, this one feels much more secure.
I like the phone, be interesting to see how I get on with it!

Hello every1, i am new to this forum. I wish i could join this forum b4 i bought my K550. yes i bought it 2day & dissapointed. its kinda long story. i had budget around 15000 tk/ (1$ = 70 tk). i searched the internet & also asked my friends & they told me to buy k550. i compared 2 phones, k550 (14000/- tk)& k750 (12200/-) & found that k550 is somehow newer than k750. first i chose k750 but the guy @ the buying shop told me that k550's carema is better than k750, it also include the so called "cybershot". as i have more preference on camera so i finally choose k550. & now i found that or u guys r tellin that k750's carema is better than k550.! damn! why the shopkeeper should tell lie to me?
moreover the large fonts of k550 does not suit me & i could not find a way to make them small font.
i am such a fool! if only i could join this forum b4 buying that damn phone.
i just thought k550 is a 2007 phone whereas k750 is 2005 phone so k550's camera must be better. but damn!
anyway i guess i have 2 b happy with it for now.
can any1 tell me some source from where i can get some video/audio playing software for this phone.

@dcoder welcome to esato mate...
I reckon the cam quality is an issue with the firmware... I will update my phone's firmware soon and will let you guys know if there is any difference...
And why do you want a 3rd party audio/video software?  The preinstalled Music player and Video player are good enough...

1. for video player--, when i go landscape mode i cant see the control bar & also cant(may b i dont know) skip forward/backward in landscape mode. got any idea how to do that? plz help
2. is it possible to play xvid/avi file with the help of 3rd party app? did u ever think about it?
3. how u encode the mp4 files ie the profile for encoding & also which softwares u use to encode them? i dont like the 3gp so i was wondering if i can use xvid/avi. mp4 is good but may be it took more size. for example yesterday i encode a mpg file to mp4 3.xx min with 400 kpbs bit rate and the size is 15MB. do you think it is good?
4.another thing is -- yesterday i was installin some java app, they run well but the main prob is i cant find a way to exit from many of those app. ie no key was givin any option. thats really annoying. need some help here
last thing, isn't there any way to make the font small. any modification?

when in landscape mode, press the right to forward and left button to reverse/go backward and remember its when you are in Landscape mode

1.whats the benefit of updating the firmware? i learnt that its risky & it could make the phone dead if there's some error in the proess. but still ppl do this. just tell whts its benefint?
2.my k550i's fw version is R1JD001. how can i know whether there's a update for FW?
3.is there any update available for my phone? if i update it what r the good things for this.
4.is there any option for offline update bcoz i dont have internet connection to my phone. so it would be a good thing if i can download the update manually in my PC and then apply it 2 the phone
5. is there any option for backing up my current FW? if yes then how?
6.i cant play wmv files. dont know why? any idea? well there's option for mp4 but converting every file 2 mp4 is booring

1. getting rid of bugs.
2. you can visit "wotan and look for the available and latest firmwares out there.
3. the latest is R6CA001.
4. im not sure if this can be done or not.
5. you cant back up your firmware. though i barely understand your question here
6. it's not supported, is it?
