monks are made not born - which means they were something else before becoming monks. monks are (usually) cellibate which means they don't do it anymore, not that they never have.

Does the Bible say anything about sex? Sex as in having sex for the sake of pleasure not as in having sex for the cause of reproduction.

yeah, there's some info in that book. it says it's 'legal' if you do it with the person you married (obviously of the opposite sex). God made sex, so sex is good, but if you play by the rules only. anyone interested in reading the entire bible will find out the good guys allways win in the end or have better luck

actually the bible doesn't explicitly insist on marriage as a prerequisite to sex, but it could be said to "hint very strongly". it essentially talks about love, commitment and so forth, the obvious conclusion of which would be marriage for most couples.
AFAIK there is also no explicit constraint on sex for pleasure, although it more or less assumes a single partner.
the bible seems to only have a real issue with sex devoid of emotional commitment and rampant promiscuity.

"AKAIC"?
did you mean "AFAIC"?
doesn't matter - i wasn't making a judgement, merely reporting information. the bible does not expressly prohibit premarital sex regardless of what some may argue, but it does come down heavy on "fornication", "adultery" and "sexual immorality". many christians would argue that god intended sex to be pleasurable but restricted to the confines of matrimony. personally, i don't think i need a bit of paper telling me that i am in love with and committed to my wife. i felt that way before we were married, and i feel the same now.
i am not aware of any specific quranic verses prohibiting premarital sex per se (by all means somebody quote one if you know it), although the same hard line on fornication, adultery, etc. definitely applies. i suppose it depends how one defines those things, and how much interpretation vs. literal meaning you wish to apply to your religious text of choice.
a man and woman are stranded alone on an island with no hope of retrieval and no means of escape. if they lived together happily in a loving relationship, had a family, grew old and died - would having sex be a sin simply because there wasn't a celebrant around to give them a bit of paper?
marriage is more than a certificate or ceremony. it's a state of mind - and i think whichever deity you happen to believe in recognises that.

There are a lotta sins you can commit that don't involve sex. It's just that the most fun sins do involve sex |
