We should really reassess what definite info we actually have before getting so worked up into a lather.

Invitations to a press conference are usually a good sign, or a countdown to an online launch (like the MBW-150 site). Other than things like that there's little right now indicating to us of an impending announcement.

What do you mean? There is definitely an announcement. See my post below:

Those of you in the know will remember from the last few announcements that this is how the product page appears before the announcement, when the info hasn't been released yet.

Haven't found anymore yet but you're welcome to join me in searching!

This ONLY ever happens when theres an announcement the next day. The product pages are put up but not finalised. So far I only found the one product page and I've checked many different names. This makes me think its just the one phone this time around.

Yep. SE have taken too long to get Paris announced. OFC I want it to be done right, but doesnt look that way even if they announce it in Q4 lol because chances are it wont be the overhaul brand new finger touch UI that we were expecting (at least thats what I was hoping for, anyway). All I know is, theres been too little too late so far. G900 is the best phone SE has coming up at the moment (- the windows mobile one, because its clear as daylight that WM = PROBLEMS), and its still not close to being one of the best handsets on the market, anyway. Given how long they take to release things, it looks to be ANOTHER dissappointing year. Think about it. PK said this is SE's year. But at this rate, even IF they release all these super smartphones which we THINK theyve got in the works, its only gonna be their Quarter, hardly their year.
For it to be SE's year, they should have already RELEASED a few major devices. I think its atrocious that there is so much focus on the mid-low end even now. SE of all people should know that people want and are willing to pay for the higher specification devices provided they are not too bulky. Even if people arent into what all the specs mean, they still seem to want mid-high end handsets more than the cheap low-end and mid-end only. All we've had so far this year that is actually of interest (ie something you'd actually buy) was the gesture control function in one or two low end clamshells, and a splash/dustproof camera phone. The WM device is just another sore reminder that they are paying far more attention to their business portfolio than they are to what their customers want. I think SE would be the top selling manufacturer now if they would have just maintained focus on their high end devices all this time.
If you put together each of the best SE specs, and assume that you could combine them into one high end smartphone, it sounds very powerful indeed. SO why waste time and marketshare investing in all these low and mid-range devices which show 3 yr old specs (some seem to be no better than the K750 even now, its shocking). A newer phone should be a better phone, IMO.

Yeah! They could add document readers and wi-fi to their high-end feature phones though.
Iremember reading a k750 review once stating: "If it had EDGE, it would be perfect". We need new se phones like that- using all(almost all)technology available.

I think the Z780 won't be any different from the Z770i. Just that it will support 1900 Mhz HSDPA for the American market as well as the 850 Mhz band. Remember, the MWC press release for the Z770 stated that it's be offered by O2. Probably, the Z780i will be for one of the American carriers.

Yeah that seems likely, especially considering CTIA is an American thing. Which is also the reason I don't think we'll see much else announced... No offense to any American members, but it just doesn't seem like the place to announce a whole bunch of phones which will sell well in anywhere BUT the US.

I can't believe the Z780 is "for" America. AT&T still hasn't released the Z750 and won't until late April/early May. The K850 was canceled. SE is just wasting their time if they think American carriers are actually going to pick up their stuff in a timely manner. Or at all. There's at least a year turnaround.

But I agree--the P5, while I assume it will be triband HSDPA, is not "for" the US market because no one understands what UIQ is and would be confused. Paris will be announced at a Euro event. When's the next one?

Hmmm... Don't know about Euro events, but they could release at Communicasia or whatever its called. I think thats coming up.

I find it funny how you don't hold your fellow Americans in very high regard. Like you seem to imply that every single one of them know nothing of technology. Its funny.

Yup, very much... with the state moto is in at the moment, it is the best time that SE can make its presence felt in the american mkt. Even Rikko Sagakuchi, VP and head of portfolio and propositions said that this year they will focus on american market, when i met him at MWC in Barcelona.

Well, that's very well and good (seriously), especially for people like me who buy stuff unlocked, but that is not the way the carriers here work (and most Americans are brainwashed and rely on the carriers solely--only a slim minority is aware of what "unlocked" is). Just because stuff is made "for" the US market doesn't mean it's actually going to see the light of day outside online import shops. With the imminent release of the Z750, the Z780 won't be released for at least another year, probably more. And even then, it will most likely be canceled.

Again--Paris will probably retain all the frequency bands as the X1, which means it can be used in the US, but it isn't "for" the US, which made announcement at a US event illogical. The next Euro announcement is most likely at this point.

You get that vibe too? No, I don't hold the US public in high regard when it comes to tech, especially phones. It's really frustrating when people rant and rave about their latest phone that is just a shoddy downgrade of a Euro phone released a year and a half ago (the latest news is that carriers are releasing--ZOMG!--LG Prada variants). But it's the carriers' faults, not the pubic.

well, i had heard that american carriers are now opening their 'walled gardens' to all devices. so that should take care of the 'carrier' aspect.

It's said to be loosing ground in Europe, so it should focus there aswell.

Cuba is another open frontier.

That's just Verizon, which is CDMA and pretty much moot when it comes to "other" devices. The GSM carriers have always accepted any device, but it's up to the consumer to figure out there actually are other devices to have.

Any more phones for today? And for that matter, any pics? Or maybe the announcement hasn't happened?
