you can certainly connect at home for "free" (although you are already paying for your connection by some other means other than to your mobile phone company) but whether its free in a pub or bar depends on the wifi service provider at that location and in most cases you have to pay for it by entering your credit card details or signing up for some annual services but its still cheaper than GPRS/3g charges though!

Cool thanks, I have noticed there are quite a few pubs/bars in my town which offer a free WiFi connection, quite a student town so offers connections for laptops etc i should imagine but would be cool to connect and browse the net via my mobile.

Yea.. this is cool! I sat at a café in Stockholm the other day and surfed at their free internetconnection. Using ICQ and downloading stuff. (You can even connect to ftp's via the browser in p990. But you can't upload stuff.. yet... Maby there will be a "real" ftp-client for p990 some day.

Anyone want's to make one? Hehe..

@SEP990i, yes that is correct I don't think there is many free 'open' hotspots in the UK though. Wish I lived in New York hehe

Hi all.

As a relative beginner in mobile phones (always had one, but only now am I starting to use the various business-type applications & features, etc) I am having some difficulty picking my next phone.

This, the P990i, is currently my favourite, but I want to consider all options - so, are their any comparable phones from other manufacturers? Particularly probably Nokia, whose phones I have had until my last one (K750i).

Features I need are: 2mg camera or better, push email, 3G, wireless internet browsing, document readers/editors for MS OFfice files, bluetooth.

I love the business card scanner of the P990i too.

Any ideas?

@Libby24 - May I take the opportunity of pointing you in the direction of this thread talking about the relative merits of the P990i vs it's main competing device the HTC TyTN.

I currently have both devices, but as an overall package I prefer the P990i despite the TyTN arguably being a more powerful device.

PS Welcome to Esato.

Thanks!

Everytime I start an app that connects to internet or bluetooth I have to accept for the program to do this. Same thing when starting the FTP-client to access the memorystick. Is there a way to make the phone remember my answer? I can't get it to work. Is some programs there is a answer called "always accept" or something close to that. But it's the same question the next time I open the program.

HELP!!!

the only way to stop that is to buy the app...the hacked demo that can be found in some sites doesn´t work (i think because of a missing tawte certificate)

Guess who currently has TWO P990s ... it's me!!!!! By some sort of mistake, www.myworldphone.com sent me another phone that arrived today. Kind of funny. I can't play with it though because I will have to send it back. It's still very fun having two of this fantastic phone in my possession!

And as a sidenote to all the naysayers in this forum who say we are beta-testers for owning the P990: This phone is still amazing! For the last week, it has been my only means of communication, organization, mobile entertainment, etc. and it has never failed to do anything I asked it to. Once or twice, I had to coax it into behaving, but there is nothing it can't do. I would like to point out that there is a slight learning curve with any "smart"phone, and you have to be relatively "smart" to learn of its complexity. And anyone who is smart knows that they must be accepting of temporary small faults in the mission of progress. Sometimes you may have to find a workaround for an issue or two. It seems many people are turning the P990's small bugs into massive mutant alien insects! If you are not pleased with the phone and cannot happily accept it at this point, I would recommend returning it because it is probably not the right phone for you in the first place if you can imagine having any other phone. Or better yet, send it to one of the many people still desperately waiting to get the pleasure of owning this great device. But all of this probably won't do any good because one's enjoyment of a single thing is often correlated with his enjoyment of all things in life. And those who are angry with the phone could probably find fault in the most perfect of things.

Sorry, I apologize for going off topic so much. I won't do it again -- just needed to get that off my chest.
