Im sorry, the S700 cam may be an ok mobile cam, but from a photographic point of view your second picture (The Corn Dogs) is actually not very good, and is a pretty good example of why the K750 is better.
It may be sharp, and seem to have lively colors, but in fact the colors are very wrong. Theres a hughe amount of blue tint in that picture, causing all white areas to be blue and other colors to be wrong. Something that would make any photographer call this a poor shot.
This blue tint is a very common problem with the S700. So is overexposure causing white burnout. You often find burned out white areas in S700 pictures. More often than in K750 pictures.
K750 handles colors alot better than S700, and from a photographic point of view, correct colors is more important in a picture than just sharpness.

@numb or Reo - is there anything that can be done about this overexposure? can the brightness be adjusted on the S700 (I should be recieving one today! ) to compensate at all?

It is best that you use the highest quality available... if you have the ample storage space for your pics. |

yes, the S700 has plenty of manual settings that can be used to optimize/compensate for different conditions. One just have to get familiare with them and learn how to use them, instead of just using autosettings.

Blue??? So, you are saying that you prefer perfect coloration over sharpness? I'd rather have the colors slightly, slightly off and have sharpness. The (corn dogs) is not a great pic.
Can you comment on the others?? Or do you just look for any faults on one pic and not give a comment on the great pics?
Photography is tricky, even with the best of the best. It's all in creativeness through settings lighting, shades ect.... One should always take advantage of environment conditions to maxamize good results. Sometimes even with all this, pictures will not be perfect.
I'll get you a coloring book and some crayons.
What about the yellowish pictures generally produced by the K750?
Or is the K750 a perfect cam phone?

Theres no need to get all exited just because I dont have the same opinion of the S700 camera as you do. I know from other threads how you feel about the K750 versus the S700 and respect that, but ease up, its not a competition, and Im not saying the S700 cam is poor or anything. I still think the S700 are the best 1.3mp phone available, but I happen to think the K750 has a better cam overall and I think you will have a hard time finding a majority that will disagree with me on that. You dont need to feel as if Im attacking the S700, cause Im not.
I dont think coloration is slightly off in the picture I commented, I think the blue tint is more than slightly off. The price sign and the counter which should be "white" are all blue. This may not be an issue in a picture to you, but it is to me.
The reason I commented this picture was as i said because this was a good example of the blue tint. I can find minor "problems" in some of the others also, just like I can also find problems in K750 pictures, but didnt find them significant to mention as the other pictures are overall very good pictures.
But if you want my opinion, based on a number of years as amateur photographer:
The best of the pictures are the road sign, which I feel has a good balance between sharpness, natural colors and composition. A really good shot, not just from a technical or sharpness point of view, but from an overall photographic point of view.
The first picture of the fence and the leaves are also very good, sharp and with colors that seem natural, one small objection could be the slight overexposure that burns out some white spots and a very slight tendency to oversharpening. Hardly anything worth mentioning, especially considering its a mobilecam, but you asked for my opinion.
The closeup of the ball, again a very nice sharp picture. I cant say for sure since I wasnt there to see the scene, but i get a feeling of a slight blue tint there also. Again hardly worth mentioning.
I cant comment on the smaller pictures, as "anything" coming from a cam of S700 looks good when resized to these small sizes.
And Im not saying sharpness is not important, but yes, correct reproduction of the scene being photographed is imporant since this is (mostly) the idea of photographing, and thus correct color and whitebalance is more important than sharpness. Naturally there is a need for a certain level of sharpness, I fully agree with you on that, but I dont think the K750 are having problems delivering that sharpness, just like the S700 dont have, and I dont think sharpness is the most important aspect of a good picture, I doubt many brides would find their weddingpictures good if their white wedding dress turned out blueish in their wedding pictures. No matter how sharp the pictures may be. On the contrary soften filters are often used by photographers when composing a good shot.
There are no general problem with yellow tint in K750 pictures, I dont know how you came to that conclusion, but that is definately wrong.
Ive taken more than 700 hundrede pictures now with the K750 and never had problems with yellow tint.
My evaluation of your pictures may seem harsh, thats not intended at all, but my point is that just like the K750 is not a perfect cam, neither is the S700. Both are only mobile cams, both are very good mobile cams, but on an overall scale the K750 cam is slightly better. We are not talking milestones here, but minor differences, just like the initial comparison of this thread showed.
You are free to think I should focus on coloring books and crayons, though resorting to statements like that seem a litle childish to me, when you post pictures and opinions, you should expect counteropinions without feeling attacked

Its an okay phone REO, stop justifying it. The K750 is better, I have used both. Have you seen some of my photography? No. Have you used both phones? Obviously not. Are you an idiot? No but are you a bit confused, slightly

I have used the K750. Although I don't own one my sister inlaw does.
Great phone ! I don't dislike it, neither do I make a big fuss about it.
Am I confused? I don't think so, but you're welcome to your opinion.

Well, I've just gotten a secondhand S700i and am very impressed with it's photos, although this is compared to the 0.3mp pics I've been used to on previous phones!
I do think from what I've seen that the K750's photos do just have the edge, the S700i does seem to overexpose bright light a little, but I'm not complaining, still takes great photos.
Given that there's been quite some debate about this, I don't think there's a lot in the quality really, not enought to get upset about and have a flame war over anyways!

The coloring book comment, was honestly a joke with no bad intentions.
However I find that in all types of forums and when you are not able to see someone face to face nor are you able to see ones facial expressions, body language, ect..... alot is lost or misconstrude in the message.

No hard feelings ! our differences in opinion make threads interesting.
Sometimes we may agree other times we may disagree. It keeps it interesting, otherwise we could have some really boring threads.
One thing for sure. esato is the best forum I have ever joined. I've been a member of many forums in the past. None like esato though.
Honestly...... I like everyone here.... wether strong views or disagreements are exchanged, it's all good to me.
Thanks for always keeping it interesting mates !

I agree with you 100%, and you hit the nail on the spot, sometimes we misinterprete eachother simply because we dont see eachother face to face. Very nice reply Reo, thx

Well heres my penny for a thought.
IMO the S700i is the best 1.3mp cameraphone money can buy. It offers the best image capture of any cameraphone up to or below the same megapixel value. It has only recently been beaten by the K750i. I believe this to be so simply because when i look at a K750i picture, i find it hard to tell whether it came from a dedicated digital camera or a phone. With the S700i, no matter how great it was, i could always tell the picture came from a phone. The K750i simply bridges the gap between phone and camera much much much much more IMO.
As for comments about the S700i having a blue tint and overexposure - these are true flaws with the S700i camera, but we cannot class them as flaws because the S700i is rather old, its not perfect so we shouldnt expect it to be, and theres nothing the phone user can do to counter such photographic flaws.
The K750i does produce some yellow tinted images - but only when you tend to use the fluorescent white balance setting, in indoors with fluorescent lighting conditions, such as shopping malls or offices. I was rather disappointed with the yellow tint my K750i produced in such a condition recently. However, i found it happened because there was insufficient light. So, in such conditions i either use night mode with the fluorescent setting, or simply use auto white balance to remove the yellow tint. I presume using the SE flash accessory would also work.
The end of the story is this; the S700i was the best cameraphone you could buy, but the natural evolution of all technologies now puts it behind the K750i in more than the simple image size aspect. The K750i now addresses almost all of the S700i's shortcomings, but also generates some of its own.
The S700i shouldnt be written off either. IMO it can still beat all the 1 - 1.2mp Nokia phones on camera quality, and again IMO it beats the N90's 2mp camera with better image sharpness.

okay... the one with the corn dogs isnt the best pic. but look at the one above and below it. so clear and sharp! then the film one down the page some, and the flower with the water on it, these are so sharp. i think we should get a few more k750 pictures also guys. reo is being so kind by giving us all these s700 pics, lets see more k750 so we can compare a little better. |
