I thought you couldn't use the update service if the firmware is O2 customised. Wouldnt you need a specific O2 firmware to update your exisiting O2 firmware?

Not necessarily - with the K700i I had an o2 specific firmware, and updated using SEUS no problem. |

No you can't say people either have all the problems or none of them, that's nonsense as you can plainly see from other topics in the forum. I have had no standby crashes yet I have had 2 bluetooth crashes.

Actually I don't think it is nonsense, although I will rephrase - a lot of people have a lot of the issues but many people have no issues at all.
My point essentially was that I don't think its a purely firmware issue - why would some people get the standby crash (and not just on O2 either - have seen it reported on Orange branded and SIM Free too) and others not at all. Why would others have major bluetooth issues and others have none at all? Why would some people have multiple reboots of the phone in a day and others not when performing exactly the same functions?
Software faults are generally (memory overwrites excepted) consistent and occur in every instance of a version of software under the same circumstances - something which is not happening here. |

Well, if only some parts of the memory are corrupted, it can explain why some would have no problem while others may have major problems! And it doesn't mean it's hardware problem, it can be solved with a new firmware!
Let me tell you something that may help you understand: I'm an electronics engineer, and a few years back I had some C++ programming courses, and when we had made some errors with "pointers", the program would compile, but it would run on some computers and would give an error on other ones! It's because the pointers were not correctly initialized and were reading parts of the memory they shouldn't have, and if by luck there was no problematic data in that area of the memory, then the program would still run despite being corrupted...
So it's really possible that it's a firmware problem and not something more problematic!

According to the lady in the O2 store i spoke to on the phone, she says that i can bring the phone in now and they will either cancel the contract (you do have a 14 day cooling off anyway), or they will exchange for a different phone model...i personally didn't want to so she said that if i can put up with the phone until they get replacement stock they would exchange it for another one of the new stock.
She didn't know when they were getting them in though.. |

Nothing here either. I wonder if 02 have been able to ascertain the batch or IMEI numbers of the handsets that have the problem. Touch wood, I've not had any crashes etc., with my phone since I bought it about two weeks ago...

Ive got a K750 with a few bugs ie standby crashes dodgy screen slow menus bluetooth problems drops calls etc. Should i take it back and get a D500? I really like the look of it. I know this comparison has been discused before but i didnt find it that informative. What do you reckon? |

The D500 is no where near as good as the K750i as it doesnt have external memory and the camera is no where as good.
Wait for O2 to get the new stocks and get it replaced then.

hi
i have an o2 online k750i and its my first SE phone after 5 years of nokias (just fancied a change)
so far i have had 2 crashes when trying to pair with my laptop via BT but thats it.
sometimes it seems like the txt's get stuck and all come through together... but maybe thats network problems??
i will try to update the firmware when it is released on the SE website to see if it fixes my small problems but i certainly dont feel the phone needs replacing!?
i ordered mine from o2 on the 31st May

I ordered mine with upgrades last Friday, just wondering if this still means waiting for the 20th June for the handset or for any orders now placed since the message on their site.
17 days is a long time, espescially when people say the w800 is coming out possibly in July....I am not sure as to whether to cancel the upgrade and wait for the w800 (but knowing my luck it would then be released in September...) |

Could this have anything to do with the new batch of k750's on the 20th being equipped with CCD matrixes instead of CMOS? So 02 feels obliged to offer existing customers an exchange? Or is this CCD rumour dead and buried? |

I have a k750 and I was able to send a file via bluetooth no problems, I have had it for 24 hours, no crash, no scrolling errors. does this mean I am ok? |
