@786KBR - you say this girl says constantly she's going to commit suicide? From what research I've read and professionals I've talked to in my training, and would say that those people who talk about committing suicide won't do it. They are unhappy with something, or the way life is at the moment, and that is their way of verbalising it. Try and find out what it is, and perhaps get her to see a psychiatrist or the local mental health services. If someone wants to kill themselves, they won't say anything. This is just a rule of thumb, not a hard and fast rule though.

IMHO depression is a term that is banded about far too commonly. True depression is where a person cannot even be bothered to get out of bed, or even eat or attend to their personal hygiene, very flat mood, lethargy, and chronic low self confidence. I don't want to be flamed for saying this, but I daresay some of you may be suffering simply from teenage angst (if you're that age, of course!). Just wait till Real World crap hits you once you get outside the protection of school!

@sam i'm in college and am 18 . It's just that this is happening too often and has taken a toll on me. Ending it all seems like a solution. Trouble is it's too hard to do it

In some ways I agree with Sammy many people on this thread are simply suffering from teenage angst. If you can survive it life's problems should pale in comparison.

@ayush - of course ending it seems like a good solution to you, it offers you an easy way out of your current problems. I can understand that if you are a worrier by nature, things do seem like they're a huge mountain to climb, I am a worrier by nature. As I say, I'm currently having some problems with my last placement that's causing me a lot of stress, the most I have ever been under, but I have never contemplated suicide.

I've seen what failed attempts do to people, and heard of what they do to you if you've taken an overdose, i.e. having your stomach pumped, given charcoal, etc. Also the effects of an overdose, like a person who tried on a few occasions to kill himself using paracetamol, except it didn't work. Until a few months later, when his liver failed. Paracetamol overdoses do slow, irreversable damage to internal organs like the liver. This guy left behind a 17 year old son when he went. Ayush, consider how YOU would feel if your mother or father died tomorrow by killing himself. That is how your loved ones will feel about you if you top yourself.

I'd find someone to talk to about your problems, either a friend, family member, or someone you trust, like a teacher at school, trusted family friend, or one of your friends from the Indian thread, I'm guessing you're a tight-knit bunch there!

hi,
I am 19 and am also in college, I rarely get depressed as I am a deep Christian and I hand all my worries and troubles to Jesus - remember the Bible says - "Take my yoke upon thee ...for my burden is easy and my yoke is light"" - says that God can handle your problems better han u can so if you believe that HE is there to handle your life and then he is in control - you can NEVER get depressed.

Remember, we get worried when WE want a solution OUR way but most of the time we dont get that, thus we need to realise that as mere mortals we are NOT in control of our life, God knows the future - you dont.....
Think about it.
dont your thumbs hurt??

@paul - That does sound rather like a good way of not taking responsibility for yourself and your actions, I am a big believer in that, and fobbing it all off onto a deity won't make problems that need actioning by yourself away. If you haven't already guessed I'm not religious, in fact I do have a few issues with religion. Though sometimes wished I could be religious and dissolve all my worries and problems by simply praying to a god!

I'll shut up now, before I drag this off-topic!

Have to agree with Sammy...praying to some deity won't solve problems that need self-assessment and introspection. As you also may have guessed I'm not religous...just spiritual.

i agree with sammyboy on this most people who say out loud that they want to kill themselves are the ones who never actually go through with it

try and get some proffessional help talk to your friends/family

they are your parents and love you no matter what happens and will want to help you

we all get stressed and depressed at times in our life it is how you deal with it that makes as grow as people

hope you guys get the help/supprt you need
