I totally agree with your story why multiplying it by 3. Cause now you're are talking about the size (memory) of the photos. But you haven't explained why multiplying it with 3 u can almost get 1 Megapixel with 640 x 480. Now I know that 640 x 480 x 3 is the size of the photo in bytes. Is that what you meant in stead of Megapixel?
