not the SX1
the topic is "Siemens SX1"
not "Siemens SX1 vs Swag" or "SX1 vs P800"

anyways, arguing with u is a waste of my energy...
back to the SX1

i hope that the SX1 comes in other colors. it's a good thing that siemens delayed the release due to still ironing out some bugs.

I think the SX1 will be very complete in functions and possibly stable too, thinking to buy it,though the keypad arrangement is not speaking for ease of use at all, anyway I thing before buying any phone yet, either Symbian phones or SE UI to wait for complete 3G covering most EU countries, approximately end of 2003/beginning of 2004.If I can probe patience on me I will then get one of the new breed's phone, fast data transfer is interesting, multimedia too.

Some thoughts about the SX-1:

First of all I should say that it looks like a great phone (due to the specifications)
But I have my concerns about the layout of the keypad. Two vertical rows along the display (one row on either side) don't seem like an optimal solution. It might be good for two hand handling, but it will be too unstable using only one hand. Siemens argument about this solution is that you can use all your fingers when using one hand, but I've tried doing this on a t68 (simulating), and it the phone was just waving around in my hand. Also the keys are small, and close to each other, so you better have the fingers of a 14 year old girl...
The next negative thing about the keypad, is the distance down to the function keys. They are situated a relatively long way away from the numberkeys, which is not a good solution. I suspect Siemens for choosing this layout only because of design, as with the Nokia 3650 (I know many have got used to the keys, but I also know a lot of people getting tired of the keypad [sore thumbs...])
Why get away from a keyboard layout that already is a success?

Well, enough about the layout. That is yet to try in real life.

To fall a little off the track (as is already done by several here in this thread) I have read a thread on club siemens about comparing the SX1 and P800. That, I think, is just bullshit. It's two widely different phones. While P800 is an advanced phone, focusing heavily on being a compact combination between a PDA and a mobile phone, the SX1 is more like a phone for "gadget freaks", who wants something to boast of (NB! don't take that too seriously). Nothing wrong about that, but I see the P800 more like a phone for the business market, who wants an easy-to-use PDA-phone-combination, while the SX1 is focusing more on functions like multimedia (video capture etc). If you should compare SX1 to an existing phone, that would be the Nokia 3650.

If you should compare P800 to a phone, it would rather be the SX45, but that's not the discussion here.

well said
I aplaud u

as for the keypad
I can simulate the SX1's layout on the P800 no problem
that's y I dont see it as such a mistake

it's not like u can use the P800 (flip off) without 2 hands for dialing.. unless u wanna dirty the precious...

well, as long as the real device is missing, you have to find alternative ways to try it out. P800 is a lot bigger than the SX1, so T68 is more likely to compare it with.

The keypad on the SX1 looked exciting, all until a friend of mine reported from CeBit, and said that he had big problems using one hand on the device. In fact, what he found most convenient, was using only the thumb to serve all the buttons. Of course, this was not an ideal solution, as the thumb then has to move across the display. As I unfortunately couldn't go to CeBit myself, I found that I could try the layout on a T68, as the measures of this phone isn't too far away from the SX1. This as a desperate solution...

But I'm very excited to see the SX1 in real life as it hits the shelves of the hardware stores.

i have some questions about the Sx1

1. Does the camera have zoom?
2. Is the camera Better Quality then the p800 (as in like 3650 quality)
3. How does it compare with the 6600
