Everyone says no tax, however I purchased 10 128mb duo's from Hong Kong a month ago, and thought "great no tax", but today got a letter from FedEx requesting VAT at 17.5% of the total cost, and a £4.50 admin charge.

I dont think theres any easy ways of avoiding import tax

£79,18 for a 128mb duo is VERY cheap... since I would have to pay £70,13 for a 64mb here in Sweden. Haven't seen the 128mb yet. Though we probably have it somewhere...

Wow, they do. For some reason I had to pay TAX to get it shipped to Michigan...but oh well. $100 shipped is good enough for me.

i'm thinking on placing an order to p800er for a duo 128mb! what would be your experiences with this site/company? is it safe, do they keep their promises? how long it will take until i'll get the memory stick?
i've seen lots of posts regarding taxes, and i'm a little bit confused! do i have to pay taxes or not! i guess the taxation is a matter of each country regulation and i should probably check what romanian regulations states! any input would be highly appreciated!

I bought a 64 stick from p800er and they said it may take 3 weeks to arrive. I got it 3 days later by normal post. Very Happy. Just don't select courier or you may have to pay import tax.

I would recommend p800er as an honest retailer.

@ Brimme & dracula

I got my 128Md Duo from p800er - chose the 1-6 week shipping option but I got it in less than a week. Certainly all working fine more me. Price was a smidgen under £80 if I remember correctly.

Ordered 1 128MB stick from The Twister Group in the States. Took just under 2 weeks from when I ordered to arriving in London. Stick was $74.12, shipping a massive $59.50, total $133.62 = £82.43. Not bad if you ask me. I don't seem to have been charged any tax (as of yet) though the Waybill indicated that shipping only cost the Twister Group $20.00, so I'm thinking maybe some of the shipping cost went to pay tax? Once you understand how the Twister Group does international shipping (see my earlier post in this thread) you realise its actually a really good service; once shipped from Illinois only took 3 days to get to London... unfortuantly they are out of stock of duos at the moment.

Check out ebay!

Lots of reputable sellers have them for under £100.

Umm..why don't people get them from Sony? They're going for 90$ USD. Why go on Ebay and spend 160USD?

tax sux

I am about to place a big order with Sony so i can get a better price for 100 Units to sell online (but not with couriers)

the reason you pay tax is because you get an invoice with the package

when you order from ebay or someone that has a special deal with no invoices in the package then you can get away with it
