The fastport is crap just admit it you cant compare it to a 3.5mm!
I'm quite sick of replying to your posts, so I'll leave you with a last one...
I've got years of experience with phones so please don't think that I don't know what I am talking about. Oh - will a 3.5 mm jack connector work with USB 2.0 cables? Or with any of the other non-music related accessories from

The fastport broke on my W900i but that was my own fault. I tend to find that its the connector on the accessories that I have any problems with, not on the phone itself.

I have K850i and P1i and no problems whatsoever with their fastports. Mini usb and a 3.5 mm jack are just pockets for dust. And as few have already said, 3.5 mm jack on Nokia N95 is just inviting to be broken, it is even hard to place it properly in the pocket with the headphones plugged in. Anyways, to each its own, Imo the whole thing about this subject is over reacted.

It is handy knowing you can charge via mini USB using just the one cable, although I've heard that some manufacturers are moving to micro USB as their standard. |

Honestly if there were an industry standard things would be simple!
The FastPort does work well, although in my old V600i it has rusted :s
Usually the problem lies with the actual connector bit, don't know the name, the one that goes into the phone.
Seriously phones would be perfect if they just stuck a nice 3.5mm jack on the top of the phone for sound only. No video. No data. Just sound.
Using a normal set of earphones would be so much easier and plugging into a larger output. If you want wired handsfree, simple. Keep using the current method. just needs to butch up the connectors a bit.

Definitely agree with you on this.

I agree it wouldn't be a bad thing.

I think we've seen the fastport + 3.5mm approach on W980, didn't we?

W980 doesn't count. Hasn't been released yet.

Not yet, but it's close enough that it's worth waiting to see. If it's a real success, maybe SE will bring out 3.5mm audio on all W series.

Um, does anyone have any visual proof of the 3.5mm jack on the W980i? I've just been looking at images of it and can only see the fastport. Granted, I can't see the top and bottom on any pictures, but it doesn't look like they could fit a 3.5mm jack in either place due to size.

The 3.5mm hole on some Nokias which is positioned on the top of the handset does look vulnerable. |

Sliding cover?
Or waterproof the inside of the top section of the phone so that the cables running down from the 3.5mm jack, speaker and all the other bits up there are the only thing that pass through a cut out at the top of the barrier, that way replacing these parts yourself won't be too difficult either.

An Industry standard with a 3.5mm jack plug would change how most phones have to be designed, then wouldn't want apple/ samsung etc.. H/phones plugged into their phones and vice versa.
I've found with a 3.5mm jack, the lead on the headphones seems to always break internally where the wire goes into the male Jack, on the fastport there isn't this problem.
