I just looked at this list of CDA numbers and since I bought my phone in Poland
and it originally came from Orange it should have the CDA 162008/23. Instead
it has CDA 162007/1 (Generic World 1) so obviously the guy I bought my phone
from messed around with it a bit before I got it

Sounds like he did the same as me & changed the cda so he could debrand the phone, I don't think this would cause the problems we're having as I've never heared of this causing problems before, and a lot of people have done it. Also my phone didn't get any less reliable as a consequence.

How do you know? Does the sticker in the battery compartment of the phone state that 'Orange' CDA ?

If the sticker inside says World 1 CDA, then what is the problem? [addsig]

The cda is neither shown on the sticker inside, nor on the box. It may be hidden in the other codes or in the bar code, but there is not a clear indication of it. [addsig]

It's possible to have both CDA's sold in a country. I bought my P990 back in Oct. 2006 and it is CDA/1 GW 1, nowadays CDA/67 is being sold here in Turkey. Most likely the earlier batches were all GW 1 & 2 and the customizations were shipped later. The only difference between /1 and /67 seems to be the /67 has customized settings for the three operators in Turkey (GPRS, MMS etc.)
The rubber thingy under the battery cover was intended as a temporary solution to accommodate the BST-33 battery which is thinner than the BST-34 that was supposed to be shipped with the P990.

Yes, the new batches have the customized cda for Turkey.

I have noticed 3 differences so far..

In 162008/67,

1. as you've mentioned, the ap's for all ops are there
2. Exchange ActiveSync comes preinstalled
3. Long name of the operator is correctly shown (TR TURKCELL vs. TR TCELL)

According to SE support, all P990s have the same hardware. The different versions on the box refer to differences such as package contents and any country specific fw within the P990.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

The package contents have never changed and only 2 cda's are available in Turkey, GW1 & Trade Turkey, but 4, 5 or even more hw revisions since launch.

So what is this information based on ?

Let me guess:

As usual on SE support's lack of knowledge...

That is a very real possibility
However, I find it strange that this number is not on the P990 itself.
The person I talked to is one of the people who knows something about SE phones. I've communicated with him before and he usually knows what he's talking about.

would you have wanted to have /23 ? i don't know why you are upset but having world generic 1 or 2 is much better than having a branded one....

yes, that's what they're supposed to..
'to know (at least) something about SE phones'

but most of them don't have a clue...

I prefer talking to technicians at the service centres.. [addsig]
