if there is one thing I hope SE never does again, is to have a creaky D-pad like the one on W810...horrid! Never had a problem with SE's joysticks, they are great:)

My last phone without a joystick was an Ericsson T29s, about five years ago. since then i have had a T610, T630, K700i, and K750i(all of which have it) and have come to love the joystick. i totally disagree!

Okay, it's quite clear that most people here prefer using joysticks. Now only having a Z600 and P910, I've obviously never experienced the joystick problems that many have. However this is basically what I want to know from people who "support" the joystick:

- How often does it need to be cleaned?
- To clean it, does one really have to completely dismantle the whole product?
- How long will the phone last with and without cleaning?

The reason I ask is that I intend to buy a SE K800i, and obviously it will have a joystick, although I intend to keep it over a year (maybe two or three even), and am very sceptical with all the problems I've read about. I'll also be using the phone a LOT since it will be for both personal and work use, meaning I will be using it to make calls, send text messages and also emails -- Now, the Z600 and P910i have both lasted without problem, but will the K800i be up to it, or is it too much of a delicate phone?
(And my main reason for opting for the K800i is the camera as I can then leave my digital at home; I don't need something great, as it will only be used for taking photos when on holiday)

I had a w800i for a year and had no trouble with the joystick. I only cleaned it by running a cloth around the outside. I never opened it.

if your saying that you have had troubles with k700i joysticks, then yes i totally understand you - i've heard many a story of them just falling off

BUT - on the k600 series phones (k600,k608,v600) there joystick is almost perfect - only thing with mine is that its had a small knock and gone a tad flat (very small!) at one end.
