@ sapporobaby, I really struggle to understand why you ever responded to this thread? Quite simply your happy with the status quo, my question is why knock a perfectly logical enhancement for people whom require both a louder volume and in thier subjective opinion higher quality sound?
Oh and in regards to your apparent Relationship with Sony Ericsson, just maybe your not the only one? Food for thought... |

Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!!
1. Stop struggling.
2. I do not have like or agree with your solution.
3. It is my right to laugh at, criticize, or provide support of your solution. I did both. The first by my own volition, the second because of the funny pictures people sent it.
4. Status quo? I have been screaming at Apple now for a year or so that there is not enough amplification in their devices to drive really expensive, high-end headphones such as the Etymotic's but after the stupid lawsuits they even put a volume limiter on it, so no, I am not happy with the status quo. Your device or solution works only for phones and is another added battery draining piece of equipment that someone has to carry. In my subjective opinion, the tradeoff is not worth it, so I will suffer with my non-externally amplified sound. By the way, amplifiers are readily available as an add on for the iPod.
5. Everyone here knows that an amplified sound, in most cases is a good thing and in some cases not, so you have 6 here and a half dozen there.
As for your SonyEricsson relationship, I say good for you. Getting the newest phones for free, for unlimited loan, or for a seriously reduced price is great huh? I know I enjoy my privilege.
So, are we over this yet? Can we close this thread yet, or maybe more funny pictures will be posted. Either way, I am over it.

Struggling to do what exactly?

No you don't.

If we're pulling the whole 'freedom of speech' line, it's our right to justify a decision, surely? I don't see us locking you in a Ukrainian prison with nothing but a 6ft4 slovak rapist called Boris to keep you company because you disagreed with us. We just said that what you were saying made no sense. Because it didn't.

a.) You have not provided a solution; all i can see that you may have done is send them a nasty email, or perhaps a mean call to their call centre. You're a bright enough guy to realise that volume limiting in headphones is something potentially completely unavoidable in a model sales arena, and as such, consumers may NEVER get the volumes they are looking for. Kapeesh?

The word 'solution' implies a 'problem'. This specific 'problem' only involves a phone. This has been effectively resolved. Hence this device has acheived it's purpose.

a.) battery draining is pretty minimal
b.) even with an internal amp, there'd be an equal drain on battery life.

Probably the only tradeoff. And it's half the size of a matchbox.

But not for Walkman phones. This was never about Ipods, because as far as I'm aware, they don't make Ipods that can make calls...

Ok, let me break the whole thing down for you.
Yes it does have limited scope in application, but it was never intended for anything else. I don't see why you're trying to look at this device way outside the context for which it was intended, and talking about Ipods and file quality vs. noncompressed files. It's simply not relevant to this device and the purpose for which it was intended.

1. the idea of a struggle was brought up by your co-worker friend, so you need to talk to him about that. It is becoming more and more clear that you are not really reading the entire context of the posts but simply answering. Anyway.
2. Resolved.
3. The sweet sound of tap dancing. I will go slow so you get it this time.
a. I do not have to like your friends decision to do what he did and I actually had a good laugh at it.
b. The pictures people sent in were quite funny and many of them made fun of his decision as well.
4. a. You are partially correct. Apple limited the volume initially on European models where as the American versions were much louder. Enter a suit by someone trying to make a fast buck, Apple applied a volume limiter that can be tweaked but the volume is now reduced. There are however other products on the market: iVolume as an example that apply a software patch to the problem. Apple's response was that it is a trade off between battery performance and the user experience in the area of higher amplification. They leaned toward battery performance
4. b. Solution is generally engineering speak. We apply the world solution to almost anything that requires an action. For additional clarification I have supplied you with a definition:
Synonyms: band-aid, clarification, elucidation, explanation, explication, key, pay dirt*, quick fix*, resolution, result, solving, the call, the nod, the ticket*, unfolding, unraveling, unravelment
Synonyms: blend, compound, dissolvent, elixir, emulsion, enzyme, extract, fluid, juice, mix, sap, solvent, suspension, water
So you can see, solution has many meanings, not just the handy myopic expression that you threw up. Here is the link as well: http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/solution
5. a. You state battery drain is minimal. Have you tested this with a volt meter over time? Do you know the battery degradation state under load? What is the actual load placed on the battery?
5.b. You state: Even with an internal amp, there'd be an equal drain on battery life. Uhh, do you really mean this or is this your best guess? I will help you here. Anytime, anytime, anytime you add an addition piece of electrical equipment to a circuit you automatically start to decrease the charge life of the battery and also increase its charging time. Just for edification and your clarification, I contacted SE about the amplifier and they said the exact same thing, if you add anything to the equation battery life calculations go out the window, so to make a very long story short, you are wrong.
6. Someone carrying it: See number 2.
7. Who said anything about iPods making calls or even in this thread. You brought this one up. Maybe you know what you are talking about, as I surly don't.
8. Let me break this down for you now:
a. Your buddy thinks this is wonderful. Great. I don't. My choice as well as his.
b. I did not start the off-topic discussion about sound quality. Someone else did and I responded to this. I think you need to go back and read from the front rather than answering from the middle. Just a hint.
c. I never implied anything other than it was in my opinion a waste of time. However it is his time and not mine so I here I must acquiesce.
So in conclusion, you were wrong about me bring up the topic of sound compression, wrong to assert that brought iPod phone call makers, the term of solution is steeped in semantics and can go either way, you still have not convinced me that this is a good idea, and I still think the pictures Hairytea and others posted are funny as hell. So what did we solve here? Nothing and probably won't.
