I bought the W800i in December as it was the best phone on the market by a long way (yes, unless you wanted a smart phone) and now have the W810i.
The W800i was perfection. The W810i is perfection made better.
Also, someone mentioned Memory Sticks for the W800i and how "4GB and 8GN are just round the corner" - Yes they are but both the W800i and W810i only support upto 2GB.
Q3 will see me in possesion of a K800i. I just gotta have it.

There has been confirmation of the 4GB working in K750 and thus also the W800 and W810 probably. It's in a memory stick thread... You should be able to find it through search

Just got my W810i. It is quite sublime! Can there be any other words!
My progression has been T226 > K700 > W800 > W810 - and I have been "wowed" at each stage.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but the rounded edges of the phone make for much more comfortable conversations - it doesn't make my ears as red or sore as the W800 used to.
The camera seems to be better. I find the sync capability with Lotus Notes a huge advantage.
The FaceWarp application form the SE website is hilarious - nearly fell outof my chair laughing at myself!
Cheers!

I'm happy to stay with my w800i. The display on the w810i is definitely brighter/richer when compared to my W800i. And, I do like some of the interface improvements (mainly the memory tags in file manager). But there are annoying things that keep the w800 more appealing to me. i.e.
1) I don't like the lack of a lens cover. Finger prints and dust get in too easy.
2) I don't like the white flashing reset when you unhook the phone from USB. It makes you wonder if there is an error. And what is with the stupid phone or file transfer option?
3) Accessing the W810 from a P.C. is a definite downgrade from the W800. I much prefer the memory stick coming up in explorer as a drive.
4) File access via a p.c. is slower and a bit flakey. e.g. error messages moving/copying files.
5) Finger prints stand out like dog balls.
6) Still has static/hissing noises.
7) W810 is more creaky thanks to dpad.

If you intend to use the phone to listen to music at non-loud volumes then I would recommend you don't get either the W800i or the W810i. This is due to the poor sound quality problems you're likely to encounter: hiss and digital artifacts / distortion.

It's been like that since W550.
"File transfer" - make the phone work like a card reader. If you select this, the phone restarts, and Windows should detect a new hardware and after installing the drivers, the phone memory and memory stick should appear as two different hard drives in My Computer/Windows Explorer. Unlike W800, W810 doesn't require separate driver installation because Windows & the phone do it automatically for you if you choose "File Transfer".
"Phone mode" - do nothing.
Beware though that this restarting that happens due to these FileTransfer/Phone option could get your phone WSOD (white screen of death), which happened to my sister's W900 when the cable accidentally got disconnected to the PC while the phone is restarting. After that, the phone got stuck blinking the white screen on and off. |

W800 will be replaced by two phones: W700 (slight downgrade, the more direct successor) and W810 (upgrade).
W800 has its two advantages (in feature): standby clock and camera lens cover. But it also has a potential Walkman hissing noise problem that SE confirms it will never fix.
Get a W810.

I second this. That's the beauty of USB mass storage. You plug it in, it just works without fussing about drivers. I still hope mass storage-enabled phones mount as a drive even in phone mode though. That file manager is a pain to use

W810i all the way. The W800i was perfection, the W810i is perfection improved.
A couple of differences for you:
* Software is much more stable and responds a lot quicker.
* The feel of the buttons is similar to the K700i. Feels very solid.
* An extra shortcut button that makes it very easy to access all your most used ... things (?).
* Looks the bo**ocks.
* Plays music much more loudly and the speaker quality through the speaker is much improved (read "bl**dy good quality sound).
* Camera responds much faster and is generally much better than the W800i camera and even the K750i camera.
* The phone gives options to view folders as "All", "Phone only" or "Memory Stick only".
* Again, when connected to your PC you now have the option to view files stored on phones internal memory as well as external. This means you can connect phone, transfer files to mem. stick, switch it over to phone and be able to view the memory stick folders without having to disconnect it first.
* The "found new hardware" wizard that auto installs all the drivers is now fool-proof (even ex-Nobia owners should cope)!
* Assuming the networks sort themselves out, you will be able to update this phone via GPRS!!
* SE have put the "New Events" option on it. Similar to the K750i but sooo much better.
* Phone has a light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the screen and button backlight automatically according to light conditions.
* Writing an e-mail is now much more user friendly with options very similar to those found on any e-mail program such as Outlook etc. Options include sending an attachment.
* You have new icons in the message menu to show if a message has been replied to by you or if a message was a reply of yours (?).
* There is now an option to back up your contacts to the memory stick |

Well it's here and I love it, the screen is higher res than the W800i.. In the file manager you can choose to view only files located on the phone/stick. It's better looking than the W800i. The pictuers seem to be a little better (this may be because of the screen you now view them on). The W810i comes with a Sony stick rather than Sandisk (I know, Sandisk are meant to be better but not the big name). You can view folders in pictures via list instead of thumbnails. Phone vibrates when move around in the menu.
Only downside from the W800i is that the W810i doesn't have a lens cover (I haven't had it long enough to notice the shorter standby time).

I've just downgraded from the W900 to the W810.
My cousin got the phone a few weeks back had a bash on it a liked it, the W900 is a cracking phone but the size of it was starting to annoy me, so i sold it on ebay while i could still get cash for it and managed to snap up a brand new boxed W810 for £175 |
