These phones look really UGLY to me. But has to do something becasue they will hit many markets and close the door to for the next 2-3 quarters, which is exactly a crucial period. And now it is september, which means that the phones will be on the shelves by Xmas...
Good timing Nokia, BAD timing With all the resources has, how could they release just 3 phones and all of them UGLY?
P-800 makes me from a design point of view. But the features are so great! |

SonyEricsson released only a few models lately maybe because they dont want to fool the buying public.... releasing ugly and recycled phones for the unsuspecting mass market. So, would you rather prefer that SE released a whole load of recycled, repackaged, yeterdays' technology phones, with the "i" version to be released 24-hours later? or wait a little longer and see a real innovative, trend-setting, asskicking models? |

....well, if there is a competition on who can decieve the public on buying a repackaged phone every quarter... then nokia wins! |

....or dont you think 3650 was meant to compete against Gameboy, or Nintendo, or a Stopwatch, or....? |

i think SE delayed the arrival of p800 to make a extra super phone, and from the reviews i red about it, its very super and much better than a palm.

u know what guys, i am no nokia fan but u must hand it to their marketing brilliance.
I live in s'pore and every corner i turn, i see pple with their nokia 3xxx, 7xxx and 8xxx. of these, the 3xxx are the most affordable and mass marketed. Even unemployed personnel in my country are at least holding on to the 3xxx series. Face it, nokia is the domineering force in the mobile handset market. what is the next logical thing to do for them? upgrade the already popular 3xxx to a colour model with extra features! Whammo! you will see flux of pple upgrading from their present contented models to a colour model.
don't see that in se. The only penetrating model it has to date is actually the T68m/i. Any replacement or improved models on the horizon for that? No! Crappy T300! And P800 is taking forever to arrive. Take a hold of that SE! I love you that's why im saying these harsh words. you just never learn...

It's not a direct competitor, but it can eat into the p800's target market as it is an alternative product. Hmmm, but what if SE decides to sell the p800 a little bit above the 3650? :-D (yeah right, dream on)

I don't think that is losing very badly at all. The only sector where Nokia will easily defeat is the marketing sector. Nokia will posts adverts on TV, newspapers and magazines more than any other manufacturer. This I think is vital. need to learn from this.
Anyway, back to the point where I said is not losing very badly at all. Remember, the 3650 will be released next year and although the website indicates its penned down for release on Q1`2003 it will probably be Q2 or Q3 (realistically), and a lot can happen during that time. can release new phones during this time which might be more appealing to the majority market. Therefore, you guys should take the wait and see strategy before drawing to conclusions and heading back to Nokias. Also, Nokia will be using users at beta testers and releasing more 'i' models of their current mobiles
I currently own a T68i and love it. I was thinking of buying the P800 but now I have made up my mind that this will be my last ever GSM phone. My next phone will be GSM/UMTS phone. 3G is kicking off soon in a lot of countries. All these new phones (P800, 6610, 7210, 3650, GD87, 7650 and others) just give us a little taste of what 3G has to offer. Therefore, I rather save money for a 3G UMTS/GSM handset.
CONCLUSION: Take the wait and see approach before making your mind up in a hurry

If all of you guys looks closely on the shape of 3650, it will
resemble one of the CDMA phone reveal by Snoy Ericsson before Cebit....T206.
Like T206, 3650 have a peanut like shape.....well no matter how cool the design looks, it still shows tht Nokia starts to copy Sony Ericsson or Ericsson.
Even the loud speaker hole design look the same to those in T68 and T39 hahaha. |

The big mistake made was announcing the P800 so early. I believe that they intended to release in August, but adding the Memory Stick and the assoicated changes in the firmware have caused delays. In hindsight they would have been better releasing a version without MS then introducing it later in an "i" version.
I think the idea of annoucing it so early was to stop people buying the Nokia 7650, but it could have backfired as people lose faith in it ever coming out and buy something that does have guaranteed availability.
Their worst mistake with the P800 was not announcing a formal delay and/or an actual release date. Although this seems to be the case with the T200/T300 & T600 as well!! Who knows when will decide to bless us with their phones...? |

Lets say the industry comes with on average one new inovation every month. SE waits one year between their top-of-the-line phones and therefore p800 can have about ten more functions than t68.
Nokia instead introduces one new phone every month, each with one new feature. The first phone look rather similar to the next one, but seen on a wider perspective the latest phone has ten more features than they had a year ago.
Nokia just constantly fills the gaps instead of letting their customers wait and wait and wait for the latest phone as SE does. |

But you have to recognize what T68 did to the market. Suddenly Nokia goes out of their way to make color phones and it's all like "look what we did!! The next big thing is cameras and color screens! Yeah!"
If you search the ericsson homepages you will find concept pictures of cameras<->phone connections from the 768-ages.
A couple of weeks after T68 was released they announce 7650, and after yet another six months it's realeased.
Then, just around the time of the release of T300 and P800, the shake the world by announcing, guess what? A low price color screen phone with downloadable games and larger pda-like phone inbuilt camera.
And I doubt that big phone with the round keypad will be a success. It's just too weird. |
