Samsung was in charge of the SoC used in vita.
Is that already have reliable confirmation release?
I'm now recognized Samsung as a leader in microprocessor industry, but I do not flavor the way they do a business thing "ruthless". it probably Samsung will launch they own handheld game device to compete in market with Sony. Apple already learned this before, Sony should look it as example. Sadly, maybe they not realized this!
Back to Sony buy out rumour, if it correct and Sony going to make they own mobile division.
I wonder what company will responsible for their radio / communicator parts if not Ericsson the industry leading?
Qualcomm / Nvidia / TI you name it? ...... still far behind Ericsson know how in this kind of techonology
Even Samsung is using Ericsson Modem in their Galaxy 4G / Galaxy S2 except LTE version which still unknown information.
They just pull up more muscle into business do it work!!
They can still use Ericsson parts, I don't see how that could be a problem.
I am just extremely elated with the news!!! Finally no more waiting for the *big thing* from Sony Ericsson forever.
And I respect the fact that many of the members here are Ericsson fanboys and they certainly have reasons to be dissapointed. If it was Ericsson buying out SE then I would have been extremely dissapointed as a Sony fanboy. So I am not going to start an E vs S argument here and I respect the views of the other members.
That said, for me its a great news and I can hardly wait for the first SONY Android Superphone.
I guess now things are clear as to why Sony licensed more PowerVR SGX Series5XT chips from Imagination Technologies. They are going to plonk it into their OWN Smartphones and tablets
And most likely they will use similar Cortex A9 quad core CPU setup from the Vita as well. And it will also mean better software as the Tablet S is mostly vanilla Android with some useful touches and no ugly skinning like Samsung and others.
Bring it on Sony!!!

would it be wise to start a dedicated thread for this takeover discussion?
This thread is for handset rumours, no?
Just a thought!

ST-Ericsson already secured PowerVR the sixth generation licensed from Imagination, and it will leave SGX 5 in dust!

Worth hoping SE will actually announce an ICS powered device shortly after? Such as, at their Q3 report event? Or don't they ever do that? |

Wouldn`t be better to simply use ST-Ericsson U9600 witch have next-gen GPU from Imagination called Rogue?
According to some news from last month ST-Ericsson has sampled this NovaThor beauty already...and will be ready to ship it in 2012 not 2013 as previously sad. We`ll see... |

I doubt that.
And on topic what is the point of discussing future handsets now as most likely they won't make it to market ever.
I guess the deal could be completed by the end of this year, so I guess no Nozomi and Aoba. |

Dont worry Nozomi and most of the 2012 portfolio is gonna make it to the market, with little to no change. If Sony buys ,the wont have time to fool around and start designing their own smartphones immediately,so they're gonna use products in the beginning, just like HP did when they bought palm, like Google will do with Motorola, etc etc... |

I know but knowing Sony, I somehow doubt that they will just rebrand nozomi as SONY and sell them. Maybe Sony has already started developing a superphone for 2012. And maybe for 2012 they will only have one or maybe two iphone like high end devices and from 2013 start expanding their portfolio. |

Ice cream sandwich/nexus prime launch cancelled. I wonder why? Could it be because of underwellming apple announcement?

Yes, they are of course competitors, but remember Eric Schmidt sat on Apple's board. Google has gone out officially to confirm it's due to Steve Job's death. His funeral is this Friday, so I think it makes sense. This will take too much news bandwidth too. The new date is Oct 27. |
