Isn't discussions about the thinking behind the portfolio for 2008 part of the topic?

Because the majority of customers are not esato members. They don't read white papers to find out about processor chips and will not refrain from buying a phone because of "old" hardware.
It's a business and introducing new hardware is not always a goal in itself. Making money and keeping the stock holders happy is. The company will most often release products where balance between cost of development and sales benefit seems to be optimal.
When/if the masses cease buying the phones because of SE reusing hard- and software things would change by necessity.
I wouldn't have cared less if the current platform was good, but its far from it.
You're right it seems, they seem to care only for shareholders and making money these days.

Cut it guys. The G900 runs the same old Philips NXP4008 CPU as all other SE UIQ3 phones until further evidence proofs otherwise.
And the cam or WIFI b+g can not proof that a different chip is used, as the NXP4008 can be equipped with different subsystems to enable WIFI b+g connectivity and the likes.

i believe you should know who laffen is??? well, he talked with SE, and they said to him its an EMP processor, meaning, ITS NOT PHILIPS, its from Ericsson...get it??? and that is confirmed by the other clues: 5mp camera, diferent designation on the whitepaper, etc
Well, whatever, its really a lost case discussing with someone that prefers to go agains logic...

I think ericsson should do a little improvement the speed emp processor, i think 250mhz is okay for uiq 3.0 platform.

I agree, too. I had an m600i and despite it's being super buggy, I thought it was a really cool device - at the time it was one of the few slim smartphones with a touchscreen and qwerty, and UIQ was much slicker and more visually appealing than Windows Mobile (and iPhone wasn't out yet). If it had had a camera and at least EDGE, I would have kept it.
Then p3i came out and still no EDGE, let alone US-band HSDPA. So for the price there was no way I was going to get one. EDGE is damn slow, but it's okay for checking email and RSS feeds, esp. if you also have WiFi to use when there's an open network.
I'd really love to ditch my iPhone for something that's slim, has a good UI, and a good camera, multimedia capabilities, and a an actual keyboard (the SE dual-rocker QWERTY board is fine by me). Sounds like X1 or P5i - I'd prefer UIQ, but only if it has at least EDGE. And for what I'm sure P5i will cost, it'd better have US-spec HSDPA.
I know the US isn't the main cell phone market in the world - let alone a big market for symbian/UIQ. But SE has said they're going to make a push in North America this year, and AT&T and now T-Mobile are rolling out HSPA in the US at long last. So maybe we'll see a P-series with quad band GSM/EDGE/HSPA ...

I agree with my fellow American posters. No quad-band GSM with EDGE for UIQ devices is pretty pathetic. If the Pnext is released without quadband GSM with EDGE and tri-band HSDPA, I'll be very disappointed.
It's bad enough we in the states have to purchase hi-end SE phones through ebay or 3rd party retailer. We'd at least want the phone to support our networks. It is the largest market in the world, wouldn't proper business sense make you want to cater to it in order to be successful?

I personally don't think we should "expect" anything anymore, however, given that Paris/BeiBei are in EMMA and CeBit is so close (and it's apparently the largest electronics show in the world), it wouldn't hurt to prepare for the possibility that it may make a showing.

P5, beibei, k850 true successor etc. are these all Cebit bound?
Cebit used to be 's venue to announce imaging flagships. i hope to see k850 successor in Cebit. (though k850 is fairly new in the market..)

@Hansen
Sure, but I think its a good idea to keeps discussions on already announced phones to a minimum OR in their respective threads or Big M might lock this.

It's been a big week. I'll see what I can find for next week but all the stuff we were expecting for Barcelona that didn't get launched this week has been moved to the next window, which is CeBit.

90 % of SE today phones have a very critical and not precise and responsive keys!
