H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa is spiritual leader of the Kagyu (Oral Tradition) school. H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama is spiritual leader of the Gelug (Tradition of Virtue) school. H.H, The Dalai Lama often states he is merely a simple monk and this is basically true - he holds no office in the school. H.H. The Panchen Lama is also of the Gelug school and has been kidnapped by the Chinese.

All Tibetan Buddhist accept the lineages and authority of all the Tibetan schools.

The Chinese would have been better leaving the Panchen Lama alone. Their actions only validate Buddhism as a threat to their regime.

Maybe the following can help:

Belief in Islam means

Belief in One God
belief in all of God's messengers
belief in all the books sent down to prophets of God. These books include Torah and Gospel. Only the Holy Quran exists in its original form, however. belief in the existence of angels
belief in the Day of Judgement, Life after Death, Heaven and Hell.
belief in the Divine Decree or Predestination, its good and its bad.
Muslims are those who declare that there is no deity except Allah (God) and that Muhammad (saw) is His messenger. They submit fully in obedience to Allah and mould their lives according to the teachings of the Holy Quran and prophet Muhammad.

@PeterKay

Do Muslims study the Torah or the Bible though?

No, but we believe that they are sent down to the earlier Prophets by God Alimighty. We only study the Holy Quran as it is the final scripture.

Chapter 48 Verse 29 says:

"Muhammad (saw) is the apostle of Allah (God). and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other. Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward."

Indeed.

It is, in as far as a people with a well-established social system (Theocracy) are not open to a new way of doing things (Communism).

Of course, the Chinese invasion and subsequent exiling of H.H. The Dalai Lama has had a silver lining in that the message of the Awakened One has been brought to the West in a very poerful way.

As the Tao Te Ching teaches us, the more one interferes, the more one fails.

@scot,
I think it depends in the school you go to,
I'm sure they probably misunderstood, but they do teach us about the other divine books.
Just very basic information at that.

well, these were my results for @scot's religion survey, although i'm not sure i agree with the order they are all in (i always find those sort of multiple choice quizzes restrictive since none of them fully align with my beliefs).

1. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (92%)
3. Liberal Quakers (90%)
4. Reform Judaism (77%)
5. Neo-Pagan (77%)
6. Mahayana Buddhism (76%)
7. New Age (75%)
8. Orthodox Quaker (70%)
9. Hinduism (68%)
10. Theravada Buddhism (65%)
11. Bahá'í Faith (64%)
12. New Thought (59%)
13. Secular Humanism (55%)
14. Jainism (54%)
15. Scientology (53%)
16. Orthodox Judaism (52%)
17. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (51%)
18. Sikhism (51%)
19. Seventh Day Adventist (47%)
20. Islam (46%)
21. Taoism (44%)
22. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (43%)
23. Eastern Orthodox (43%)
24. Roman Catholic (43%)
25. Nontheist (33%)
26. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (30%)
27. Jehovah's Witness (20%)

only Catholics believe in the Pope as an over-reaching spiritual leader, since he is meant to be god's representative on earth. Protestant Christians generally believe in a more direct path to god through jesus.

@Peter: i have couple of questions.

1. Why are there words in brackets in your quotes? does it signify imprecise translation or something else?

2. if all the previous holy books are part of god's teaching, then wouldn't it make more sense to embrace that message in it's totality rather than just the "last chapter" as it were? i am looking at it from the point of view where the old testament is still fundamental to christian faith even though they started out as purely judaic scripture.

Or the rating around the world. Because I'm quite sure Islam is in the Top 5

A thought:

The 14th century Tibetan Nyingma master Longchenpa Rabjampa said: Since things neither exist nor don't exist, are neither real nor unreal, are utterly beyond adopting and rejecting - one might as well burst out laughing.

This post isn't a response to anything that has gone before, I like it and I wanted to share.

Nice quote, that would make a great signature line!

Almighty God has told us the future in the Holy Quran, explaining what will happen on the day of judgemant and heaven and hell.

Chapter 7 Verses 43/44 state:

"And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury;- beneath them will be rivers flowing;- and they shall say: "Praise be to Allah (God), who hath guided us to this (felicity): never could we have found guidance, had it not been for the guidance of Allah (God). indeed it was the truth, that the apostles of our Lord brought unto us." And they shall hear the cry: "Behold! the garden before you! Ye have been made its inheritors, for your deeds (of righteousness)."

The Companions of the Garden will call out to the Companions of the Fire: "We have indeed found the promises of our Lord to us true: Have you also found Your Lord's promises true?" They shall say, "Yes"; but a crier shall proclaim between them: "The curse of Allah (God) is on the wrong-doers."

Chapter 7 Verses 50/51 state:

"The Companions of the Fire will call to the Companions of the Garden: "Pour down to us water or anything that Allah doth provide for your sustenance." They will say: "Both these things hath Allah (God) forbidden to those who rejected Him."

51. "Such as took their religion to be mere amusement and play, and were deceived by the life of the world." That day shall We forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs, and as they were wont to reject Our signs."

gelfen's post is his reults from an online quizz that I linked to in an earlier post. If you look back a couple of pages you should be able to find it.

@absin

A most interesting quote indeed, I think it sums up life rather nicely actually.
