the new firmware won't be out on seus for a while, cause it's not even on topsony yet and topsony get all the firmware before seus, the k810 R8BA024 is on topsony but still isn't on seus yet |

SE are still making excellent products, but they've let quality control go. They also seem to have become too reliant on a platform that is rapidly in need of updating.
Ericsson, then SE, were always first with things (well, sometimes Motorola beat them). Nokia wasn't a leader in technology, but had the best user interface.
Now, Nokia is investing massively in new hardware. They beat SE with a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, HSDPA... and took Series 60 to a level that made UIQ look awful. In fact, SE should have acted sooner to prevent the disaster with UIQ3 - in many respects a step backwards. What the hell were they thinking with the P990? That shouldn't have been released with so many faults any more than the K850 now.
As you say, Joe Public will see the camera as rubbish, the media player that slows the phone down to a crawl when you start playing music, regularly crashes for no particular reason (it sometimes reboots when it's on standby, so it must be crashing for doing something as ordinary as re-registering on the network!) and is definitely inferior to earlier models in terms of buid quality; my screen is creaking at the top (the plastic cover is actually loose and coming away) and now the shortcut and C keys are partially rubbed off and letting light through. I take great care of all my handsets, so goodness knows how the buttons can be flaking already.
So, SE might have some good kid (especially now in the low-mid range) but they need to speed things up to ensure they keep ahead of Nokia, who don't seem to be doing much wrong at the moment. The N82 is going to be MASSIVE - and I say this as someone who generally prefers SE handsets, but still tries hard to be impartial and open minded.

Thats not total correct, Top Sony dont currenlty have R1CA037 on the K850i.
I have looked on the davinciteam website and they currently have the approved firmwares for some of the k850i R1CA037

Will SE release new Firm for K850i before Christmas?
I think that the K850i needs apart from his predecessor (K800i, similar quality pictures) and improve and take a step forward in the camera and taking pictures.
When Sony plans release a camera firm in terms for this phone?

HPM-82 working!
Got my K850i two weeks ago, and still miss my W800i, but hopefully FW update will arrive soon.
Strange thing though. Since the play-button is now gone I decided to buy a handsfree with media control buttons. Unfortunatly I bought the HPM-82, that isn't working due to the many FW bugs. And of course it didn't...
Anyway after a week using a DS200 bluetooth device, I plugged in the HPM-82 again, and now it works. All buttons now work 100%. I've noticed that the volum bar isn't showing anymore now, even when no handsfree is connected...
Guess I just have to wait and see how long that will last...
I have the old 029 firmware on an unbranded phone.

Hopefully we should only be waiting a matter of days for DaVinci to release a client compat with our beloved K850s. But even then we're waiting on a generic firmware '037. I'm really not sure what to make of how long the wait will be. My guess is that it could be a while as I'm sure  will want to fix all the issues before they release the new one. I'd quite like to see the return of the feature where videos preview in thumbnail mode. I had it on my old K610i and on my K800 before I changed the firmware out. That was quite useful for me.
