@ascariss
They didn't stop doing this, but not for flagships... I remember having some low/mid rangers with such long time to launch...
Xperia X Performance, while it is high-end, it's not the flagship... maybe Sony didn't want to stay in the harbor while 820 ships are sailing

I was referring to the rest of their products, the break between announcements and availability went down a lot from the older days but seems the trend is coming back.
I agree not a flagship, but makes you wonder what Sony can stick into the next flagship to differentiate it much.

An ultra HD display for starters would do them some good for the Z6. |

Xperia X Performance with XA dimensions would be a perfect phone. |

I know, my point that they didn't stop that habit, they just focused to speed things up for some models specially flagships...
I can see that Xperia X dual sim version comes with FHD, 3GB, 64GB internal + microsd slot.. so can we assume Sony will move things up in their flagship ? like QHD, 4GB, 64GB + microSD for Z6 & UHD for Z Premium.. or maybe even Z6 comes with 32GB while the premium comes with 64GB...

Xperia X Performance...
Sony; why you no give us 64GB (or more) internal storage?
This is obviously not a flagship device. Hopefully they'll announce a flagship (Z6) at IFA2016?

Well, good specs for a midrange. Don't know if you guys remember but I was constantly saying that they should release X Y Z series. Guess they listened (constantly messaged them via LinkedIn).
Great moves. Now they should release the flagship with force touch in Summer. They have the upper hand. |

Yeah that's what I thought until I saw the recommended prices... ~700 euros here in Sweden (for performance)

These are midrange phones, I expect them to be a lot cheaper than the S7 and G5. 820 in a midrange phone which has the internals of a Z5, yes it can be considered lazy but its a very good device, it should have excellent all round performance and people can't whinge since its not a flagship. Last year's flagship specs are this year's midrange which is great quality for the consumer. Its smart, the portfolio is smaller with a more unified design, fresh look and quality feel. Even the XA has a very nice design for a low end, these X phones are not going to outsell the S7 or break records, far from that but lets look at the bigger picture:
- Sony has changed the design, looks good with slim SIDE bezels, metal back
- UI has been updated a lot in terms of design
- All have good quality camera sensors
- Lots of people are praising the high specs for a midrange, increasing interest in what the Z6 will be like so I would expect better specs than the X Performance and a new design with small bezels and stuff
Sony will have yearly flagships so expect the new Z around IFA. Its pointless to compare to the S7 because it is the pinnacle of Samsung development and it looks pretty much flawless, it will sell like crazy and Samsung are rightfully king of Android. They have great momentum and keep using that to stay ahead. LG did something great with the G5 too. I still feel that the Z5P was the best device of last year and even if anyone makes a device better than the Samsung flagship, it'll be a while before they can surf that wave that Samsung is on top of. Round of applause to everyone. |
