as i said they've just put in the underground plumbing - the connections for the toilets, showers, baths, the sinks in the kitchen and bar, etc. it also looks like the underground water tank has been installed. this week they should be laying the concrete slab. in theory construction should be finished within six months, although there is provision for a bit longer in the contract.
the block itself is 660m2 (two-thirds of a quarter-acre block). about 30 years ago a quarter-acre was average for the outer suburbs, but what we have is a pretty good size for flat land in today's market unless you want to live a lot further out from the city. i might have liked something a bit bigger, having grown up on a quarter-acre, but i have an inherent disinterest in gardening and at the time property prices were growing exponentially. in any case, when the estate is complete we will be within walking distance of a park.
the house is on the large side - just shy of half the land area - but we wanted a place that we won't have to move out of when we start a family, which would mean buying a place that much more expensive and that much further out of town.

Well, tonight I'm off to see Jimeoin at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. I haven't had the chance to see him live for a few years, but the guy is very clever and extremely funny.
Saturday I have a friend's wedding to go to, and Sunday will be spent recovering from that and visiting the block to check on progress (although it's also my sister-in-law's birthday this weekend so i'm not so sure about the "recovery" bit).

there wasn't a lot done to the block last week - just a bit of levelling and removal of general detritus. hopefully the slab goes down this week.

as i said - i like it as it is. i'd only want it changed if i decided for some reason to change my username, but that would be an exceptional circumstance.
now if mass and tranq (and a few others besides the stalwart jojo )decided to post here from time to time that would be appreciated....

there is a film crew for nicholas cage's new movie "ghost rider" in the carpark across the road from my office (made parking a bugger this morning, i can tell you!).
apparently they've also been filming not too far from where we are builiding our house (literally 5 minutes away).

@east: no, i haven't loaded any concept pics of the house. they are all on paper only at the moment, since they are A3 and larger to scan them would lose a lot of detail.
ok, i have a bunch of pics this post - the shots i got of the crew preparations for filming 'ghost rider' over the road from my office (apologies for quality - they were taken with my phone):
outside in the street
closeup of an open crew truck
now inside the carpark...
expect to see this motorbike in the movie
scene lighting
apparently mr. cage made an appearance later in the evening, but not so any mere mortals could see or speak to him.
