don't you never ever think to update via dialup connection, although even if the update was finished and took alot of many many hours, many problems you will face so try to update via broadband connection as it is more stable than dialup one.

so here's a request for nxt upgrade. Include some sort of pod catcher programme please! Might it be built into the next version of Opera? been searching for something like this since I got the phone and would gladly pay for it. another idea/request: use that empty space on the standby screen for lshortcut icons (i know, a la the iphone!)

bondizi... I can confirm that Blackberry Connect 3.45 does not work with the new R5A17 FW update. When the BB application starts, it does not connect.

Ares, the power-draining thing only happens to me after I use usb charging where it would sometimes go from 100% to 83% in 2 minutes, but that's even with the previous firmwares. I think it happens because usb charging is meant primarily to sustain power rather than recharge, I made a mistake thinking it's just as efficient as my dedicated charger

according to my limited understanding about charging a battery...

as USB can only output at the most 3v - i think it means that USB cannot fully charge as charging a battery fully requires a higher voltage supply.

please feel free to correct...!

Somebody mentioned that Ipods have had a lot of issues with the battery, since the Ipod only used the USB to charge. Apparently you guys are correct in saying that the USB is not actually charging , but rather maintaining.
As a side effect, it can damage the battery, cos the battery recharging cycles are all messed up. Potentially.

done updating my phone as well and i still have the annoying crackle issue while in a call. tried to set to manual network detection, if it still didn't work, i'll send this to a service center there might be something wrong with the hardware already..
no matter how wicked it is, i wont use a phone unless it's a sony ericsson!

Seems a bit odd, but do we have WMA support like the M600??

Also, how come am having the SAME RAM level at startup just like R4?? NOTE: am NOT having SMP working yet, its a fresh startup!!

Even odder, it seems M600 and W950 have even better RAM than the P990 after updates!! Whats that now??

I was on the verge of tossing my P990 and buying a Nokia, but two days after the latest firmware update (plus deleted a lot of junk plus Swiss Manager installation) and the phone is working perfectly! Not a single crash or restart, blazing fast menus, no slowdowns. It only took like 7 months (thanks a lot SE) but the phone now really works like it should. If it had been working like that when I first bought it, I would have been ecstatic.

I suppose it all boils down to memory management. You would have thought they could have sorted that in less than eight months after releasing the phone and what two years after showing first prototypes? That's a project gone horribly wrong; I bet heads rolled at SE.

Don't worry too much about the RAM at startup thingy, it's actually quality that matters rather than quantity. We can have 20mb of RAM at startup but it wouldn't mean a thing without decent memory management, and that's exactly what we're having with this new fw. Of course to see a bigger RAM displayed is a treat to the eyes, but let's just overlook that for now (until the next update that is, we have BIG expectations SE!) and savour this delightful 'brand new' device we have in our hands. Now it looks like eventhough N95 is the talk of the town, P990i might just remain numero uno in the touch screen department

I have done the two updates, but have two problems. Pop email does not work, despite repeated tries (use vodafone) and the SE website set up wizard, and also alarm does not rings well. Had no problems in past with both, and I am quite seasoned P-series user.

Am thinking of doing an internal drive format through service menu, but have no idea how to do it, and other messages I have seen do not seem to clearly explain. Can you please help out?

Thanks,

DeShark
