UIQ3 phones with latest firmware still behaving badly |

The purpose of this topic is to avoid people have to answer the same thing over and over.
This is for people that updated their phones to the latest firmware available, and still experience very frequent reboots or kernel errors, something that by now is not normal behavior for UIQ3 phones:
1 - Check if your P990/W950/M600 has the latest firmware for world generic CDAs
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA
2 - If your CDA does not alow updating to the latest version available you might want to change it using kulakendi
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=141900
3 - If you really have the latest version, start by making a manual backup of your phone data - use outlook or save data to memory stick for calendar/contacts, copy the rest of the data manually, save smsīs with sms diary. You could try using the backup app from pc suite, but it does not work always has it should, and restoring some kinds of old data seems to bring back old bugs. Some people refer avoiding restoring the "unified inbox" is enough. For safe, do it manually like i said.
4 - Now, format internal drive. To do that, acess service menu - press >*<<*<* with flip on, or * jog-up * jog-down jog-down * jog-down * in phone app without flip. Choose format internal drive
5 - Now reflash your phone with SEUS. Using a different PC and a better internet connection might be a good idea
6 - You might want to format it again after. I really donīt know if doing it also helps, but it doesnīt cost much to do it
7 - If problems still appear after this, repeat 3 and 4
8 - If after that the phone is still unstable, a trip to a service center might be the only solution
A final note: no one can guarantee this method is fault proof, but experience shows most problems are corrected his way and it can do miracles.
Also, like i said in other threads, SE should already have reworked the process so that people with problems donīt have to make all this manually for having the phone working ok. I will post this also on SE devs forum

Very good Ares. This thread should always be on the first page so that people can easily get this most helpful info.
Yes, it is bad that one should go to all this trouble but stable and reliable phone is worth of it. |

Ok, i am in the position to have access to two M600i's - mine and a friend's M600i. On mine, after 4 or 5 sw updates and formats (in the last 6 months) my phone went from bad to very bad. The web-browser crashes most of the times, the Rss Feeds crash sometimes , it restarts at least twice a week. Sometimes everything is slow, the agenda mixed the phone numbers and names, the contact pictures are still fuzzy and unreadable unless I reinstall them to their names.
On the other one that suffered the same treatment, the web-browser doesn't crash but reboots constantly everyday when someone calls ... that's the baddest of all. So why are they reacting different when they are just the same?! I am getting tired of it.

701 - it must be some form of firmware corruption, there's no other explanation that makes sense - maybe there's something inherently wrong in SEUS that is causing this under certain circumstances, I don't know, but I do know that even when my phone was locking up (after the previous reflash) it didn't restart, and the browser never crashed either.
I suggest you clear the cache of SEUS (as I understand it, it stores the downloaded firmware and could simply be reapplying the same corrupted version every time you update), or use a different PC if possible just in case it's some other recurring problem with the particular machine you're using. I can guarantee you, from my own personal experience, that it is possible to go from unreliable to reliable with the right reflash - and vice versa too. |
