It's already been established that some don't understand why the Muslim's reacted this way, and some don't understand why non-Muslim's don't understand.

It's already been established, that making a mockery of one religion shows a lack of respect, and the reaction that's currently been show is completely over the top and could have not been escalated as high.

Finito.

In australia recently they have been talking about making it illegal to burn the national flag. The reason for this is the recent protest by our indegineous community on "australia day" (which they call "invasion day" since it was the day their country was occupied by Europeans), where the protesters burnt an Australian flag.

I think this is a good example of how we in the west can sometimes react badly to another person's free speach. I think it is plain wrong to put someone in jail for burning a flag. Okay jailing someone is not as bad as burning down an embassy or killing people, but it is an example how many of us are capable of over-reacting when we feel our way of life is threatened by another person exercising their right to free speach.

I'm not justifying the carnage being caused by muslim protesters to the cartoon. Infact I'm saying we should tidy up our own house before critiscising. Does anyone here seriously believe the jewish community would allow holocaust jokes? It's completely and utterly politically incorrect to make jewish holocaust jokes in the west. And in fact it would be insensitive to do so. Likewise, having been aquainted with how seriously Islam views images of the prophet, can we now accept that we should be more sensitive, but without justifying the voilence that has arisen?

When Iran publishes it's Holocaust jokes, can we demonstrate our love of free speach by letting them do so without a single wimper of protest?

These are the important questions for the west at this time.

your tone is rather disturbing. it's almost as if you think that's a good thing.

@Gelfen. I agree. It raises the question again 'why' should anyone have to hide like cockroaches. Also, why does printing images, denying the Holocaust, to challenge the principles of free expression prove anything when its already an everyday occurance in that country?

Well they did'nt have to,they brought this on themselves.

Irans point proves quite a lot actually...everyones ranting on about freedom of expression and how that should be paramount over everything else...lran is just turning the tables and checking the reaction in the west!

We are supposed be beacons of like for freedom so why are people suddenly getting jumpy over them publishing a few pics?

I can't believe people can utter such cretinous statements as "Well they had it coming to them....I honestly can't say they don't derserve it....". If it wasn't for my absolute belief in free speech I'd happily see you locked up for condoning terrorism (for that is what it is - terrorising people in to silence). [addsig]

Are you off your horse this morning?...how is that condoning terrorism?

They did have it coming to them i think the vast majority of people would agree with me on that point....if your going to incite hatred against another religion knowing full well that it will upset a lot of people then they absolutely so deserve to be punished for it some way ro another, preferbly by their own danish courts...but since they have gone into hiding themselves,i think thats enough punishment for them dont you think?

What about all the lives lost because of this...who's going to be punished for those crimes....dont blame the people who commited those killing.blame the people who incited the hatred that started the whole thing! [addsig]
