this whole house-building affair is getting more frustrating. i had a phone call last week from the building company to tell us the surveyor was not going to grant a building permit on the grounds that our front windows were too small, and a consequently did not allow in enough natural light to meet regs. then they said that to change the plans it would cost me an extra $500 administration fee because it was classed as a "post-contract structural change" which required re-drawing and re-quoting, plus the price difference between constructing the old and new design - despite the fact the change is not our fault and we don't even want it.
i then called my architect who told me that no, the windows were indeed big enough according to the letter of the law (but that incidentally some surveyors get very stingy and don't count the frame as part of the window area). he offered to call the owner of the building company on our behalf, who he happens to be a friend of his (part of the reason we went there), and lo and behold we get a phone call from the company to say "sorry, we didn't transcribe the plans properly. we'll have to redraw and requote them to submit to the housing surveyor".
so now more delays
but at least it's all at their cost because we've already signed the contract

It's the BEST mag for building/constructing houses (part of it) etc. mate! The interiors there are very nice too, just like seeing the houses of the Royalties of Europe et al !

@gelfen - Does the ring still fits your finger mate How long had it been away, maybe you 'acted' (no evidence to show) single again while it was being altered !

my replacement ring is identical to the original except that it is a size smaller. the jeweller said that it was probably oversized the first time.

finally some progress on the house. building permit has been approved and first orders should have gone out today. theoretically, the builders will be on site within the next fortnight to start digging.

@jn: we'll have a spa bath in the ensuite
@woot: while that would make me feel better, unfortunately it wouldn't get the house built any quicker

I'm positive that it wouldnt speed up the building process mate.
But it might make u feel better about the whole ordeal when one of the workers starts screaming when he has crap all over his behind, covering his overalls. Workers running around, like chooks with their heads chopped off it brilliant. worked wonders for me, when they waws building me extendable games room.
Lol.
Hows Melbourne these days. And to think that i was the only aussie on esato. GO THE PERTHIANS!!!

the builder tried the money raising stunt again by offering to install conduit for our phone connection (at a price), but on closer inspection it seems like something we'll probably need so telstra don't rip us off so hard later when they install the cable. if there's a nice shiney conduit they won't have to dig up our front yard.
HOWEVER - only yesterday we discovered that it was already included in the contract. a phone call later and all was solved but i'm starting to get a little pissed off
