Hey guys, probably a stupid question, but do you need to have credit on your phone to access free GPRS?

I connect sometimes but its really slow and only loads up 2 pages then stops until I power down and start again. Then other times it says I have run out of credit and need to top up.

Any ideas guys and gals?

Yeah I have 3 pence and it works fine. I get the you have run out of credit occasionally and jus click ok like the previous poster and works absolutely fine. even with no credit i think it should still work. some people have previously posted on this thread claiming they ordered the sim, put it in their phones and used the free GPRS settings and it worked straight away. Wow. You guys are REALLY stingey with your top-ups . I top up MAX 10 quid a month (for the 300 free sms) and am never below half that at the end of the month. Which reminds, me, im due for a top-up now...

well its not that we are stingy, just that each users needs might be different. I have 3 contracts (so I dont think im that stingy ) and paying so much per month I need some sort of freebee so to speak and o2 GPRS does the business. I mean if its free why not take advantage right? Because if it suddenly started charging us then we would all complain and use it much much less right? [addsig]

is this something to do with the conection or is there a way round this?

sorry mobman, theres no way around this little problem. o2 pay&go doesnt allow cookies so you cant stay logged in to virtually any site very annoying I know... thats why im using gprs with my orange sim now and not my o2 sim

@mobman: glad it's working. Shame about the cookie issue, I'm having exactly the same prob, I posted about it but I don't think there is an answer like ten18 said.

If anyone finds one I hope they let me know as it's killing me.

@ten18: if you're using the orange sim won't it cost money?

took the p*ss with free GPRS on O2 last night. downloaded a film which was over 100Mb! i just installed a download manager to get round that 1Mb limit issue.

total GPRS usage with modem is now 246Mb in less than a week!

still anoyed by the lack of cookies - i'm gonna top up my old orange sim! what is the speed like with free orange GPRS?

100MB! wow how long did that take mob? what download manager are you using?
The speed of orange gprs is faster than o2 I think. And theres no download limit!
Orange gprs is definently the way to go if you want to stay logged into sites such as esato.com use it while you can! it ends 30th April.
