funstuff : cingular vs. voicestream |

I am on voicestream, just signed up with my own phone and they gave me a free SIM as well. Only downside is the $200 cancellation fee and that their signal is too weak in the Chicago suburbs. In CA I don't have any problems with the signal. I get 200 minutes plus free weekends for $29.99, and now they are offering free nights for 2.99 a month. VS tech support is the best I have dealt with, they solve any problems I had within a matter of seconds. Another advantage is that T-Mobile has a lot more experience with GSM networks so that will help in the future.

@cibalom
I so damn agree.
My first chat with customer service with T-Mobile/Voicestream went very well! I had no problems getting service from them for my T68i, and no bullshit like Cingular's, "You're phone is not supported, so smeg off". Not only that, I didn't have to lie about my phone to get GPRS access like I did with Cingular.
Even though T-Mobile's $200 cancellation fee is a disappointment, they make up with it for there unlimited night and weekends and 1000 minutes for $39.99. Not only that, Cingular doesn't even want to match that when I chatted with them to cancel my account.
So basically, go to hell Cingular.

Oh, and about charging for incoming SMS, I just heard Cingular will be doing the same thing in September, so it really just doesn't matter anymore. Although, pretty much I see this will cause some competition between Cingular, T-Mobile, and perhaps AT&T. |

u heard about the SMS? or maybe you saw mah post.
u had to lie to cingular about t68m/t68i because the phone was not released under cingular services before. i mean we are NOT suppose to have the settings anyway. it was our choice. LIE to have it or be honest and wait. i guess u chose to lie as to some others also did.

cingular is almost done with their network sharing with AT&T. this is only between cingular and at&t.
...also, cingular will have 611 24/7 also. iono if this is happenin right now. the tech dept is 24/7 now for sure.
RE: about lying to cingular
do ya'll know that WE know ALL the prefix of 'em IMEI ? [ prefix guide ]
so if you're lyin or not, we do know what phone it is. it's also the basis of phone replacement. u cannot tell them u lost your t68m when ur v70 was the one that got stolen.

Yes, I have to lie to a service provider which denies me service because I have a far better phone than them. It's quite funny how T-Mobile has no problem supporting my phone even when it's not available in the US market.
And for it being "our" choice, it’s more of a cooperate decision than having you doing anything about it. I don't expect T-Mobile/Voicestream to keep up these rates, Cingular didn't, but it's better to get these good contracts on early when you still can before they do change the rates like Cingular has.

@rj, i also hear about Cingular charging roaming on SMS, that really $ucks!!! we got free nationwide roaming (calls and SMS) with T-Mobile/Voicestream, hehehe
...unlocking phones with Voicestream/T-mobile is so easy...you just have to email SIMunlock and poof, you'll get the unlock code a few hours after...got 3phones unlocked in a span of 5months...can Cingular top that?

i dont think cingular charges u extra $ for roaming. infact i roamed on globe philippines internationally and kept on receiving and sending text. nationaly, i doubt it.
didnt we talk about this unlocking issue b4? since EVERYONE was complaining about unlocking, ALL GSM carriers are now giving their unlock codes easily =] |

@rj, my friend who's from LA went on a road trip, right now she's in Chicago...she told me that she can't text or call because she's charged for roaming...and i don't think she's lying.
my cousins in SF, when they go to Jersey, Atlanta or Seattle, they don't use their cellphones coz they get charged for roaming (even SMS)
i know somebody from Howard's forum who's having a hard time having his phone unlocked by Cingular. he's got 3phones but they only give him 1unlock code in a certain amount of time...you have to wait for like months before you can have your other phones unlocked...

I have cingular and would have loved to switch to a diffrent provider like sprint now that they have 3g equipment but after looking at all I have in my area cingular is the cheapest and easiest though it may not look like that at all times. I have 700 any time 2 phones and 2 numbers 100 sms free voice web and free gprs web free long distance amd 3500 night and weekend minutes. for an average of 90$ given after monthly credits for mistakes cingular makes it gets less. After trying for months to get WAP service they finaly gave both of them to me for free. |

CinguLar finally has roLLover minutes which means aLL unused minutes wiLL be transfered for the next month's aLLowed free peak minutes.
i do have 1000+ anytime minutes. if i couLd ask cinguLar to put me on the ROLLover pLan without changing the features i have on my post-paid account, i could possible have 12,000 minutes for august 17, 2003 - FREE OF CHARGE. LOL ;]
i feel sorry for those that panicked thinking that the NEW cingular plans would suck ....unfortunately, it's better. weLL for me it is.
