| P800 is a direct competitor to 7650; the fact that it is coming out later has no significance as to which of them as a fact is better.

7650 is a smartphone (designed to be used with one hand), P800 is a phone/PDA combo (I've seen it also being called a mediaphone). Most of the phone companies (Nokia, Motorola, ...) decided that it is too early to release a mediaphone right now, especially without 3G support. And, I agree with them. They will release them next year, 3G enabled, and kick SE's and their overhyped and delayed P800's ass.

p800 will be the number one phone when it is released, and then everyone who bought a Nokia 7650 are going to feel sorry for not waitng for a while to get the SE phone. Nokia is for kids, ericsson for the smart people, who dont only judge a phone for its cover. |

P800 can be used with one hand; either via keypad or jogdial. And you still have to open 7650 using two hands.

So what you're saying is you praise Nokia and Motorola for not releasing anything yet; and still you say the greatest fault with P800 is the delay?
I think the reason SEMC has a headstart with the P800 is a combination of two things:
1) Ericsson developed the so called "communicator platform" which had similair specs with P800; so they were not starting from scratch
2) Sony gives access to wider network of components and resources (i.e. camera and memory and so on)
I think adding new features, polishing the software, sorting out software bugs, and optimizing manufacturing processes, is causing the delay.

Apart from wcdma, it is hard to think of a new functionality that could beat P800. From now on, the problem is in shrinking the devices while keeping them as usable and cost-effective as possible. I think the trend will move towards folding-type devices.
Maybe things change then; but as for now and until 3G makes it big time, P800 is the leader of the pack. |
