I've recently had problems with PayPal and eBay also (Now same company). Sadly the problem was never resolved cause the item cost £10 (it was a Gameboy game that turned out to be fake).
I've found that PayPal are just as bad as the fraudsters themselves. No where on the website does it have a proper e-mail address or phone number to ring up. I hate using web forms to contact people as it prevents you from having a proper e-mail log of the complaint. Plus when you get a Case Closed e-mail from PayPal, with a 'Don't reply to this mail' message attached, it's enough to make your blood boil.

Sorry to hear you are going through this, I hope you get a better result than I managed. Don't give up on that amount of money, As suggested contact the Police, just because this happened on the net doesn't make it any worse than a theft in the street.

The guy (Antoine Neron) you're looking for is somewhere in Southeast Asia. He left Chicago in 2003.

I am Antoine Neron, and I am appalled by many of the assumptions of those in this thread.

Do you have any idea how *common* account hi-jacking is at ebay? Fraud is rampant, and many of the sellers have their accounts disabled even for the slightest complaint from buyers (or even non-buyers sometimes).

I was an ebay account holder for years. My account had been hi-jacked twice in the 6 months prior to the latest incident. The first couple of times the listings were disabled because the system was smart enough to know that a seller who had been selling in one category for 1+ years does not suddenly put up listings for 100 laptops. Ebay gives you less than 24 hours to not only call and verify that you are the account-holder, but also to fax them a certified copy of 2 copies of your ID. If you don't check your email in that time period (much less are able to provide them with 2 notarized forms of ID), you're basically screwed. Fixing the issue takes a lot of work, as anyone who has been affected by this can attest.

However, the latest scam was more cunning and ebay/paypal alerted me only after they had disabled both accounts.

Once your account is disabled, you have no idea who has been affected. Getting *any* information from ebay/paypal is near-impossible. I feel sorry for the (literally) thousands of sellers on ebay who had to go through this process. It still happens, unfortunately.

To make a long story short, I was able to contact most of the buyers who had thought they purchased an item from me and refund their purchase price (from my own pocket) in order to clear my name.

I was finally able to find out whom to contact about this in 2006/2007 and provide refunds to them. Again, from my OWN pocket and out of good faith to the buyers who had been scammed. (VERY few sellers do this.) Ebay/Paypal does not provide much recourse to buyers who have been scammed. But it bothered me to think that there were people out there who think that I, as the original account holder, had scammed them.

Since then I have stopped using ebay and paypal and encourage other sellers to do the same. Their system (for both buyers and sellers) is quite unfair.

Both BUYERS and SELLERS can be scammed, with little recourse.

The reason I am replying to this post is that there were a few "buyers" whose email addresses were no longer valid when I sent the original email a few years ago.

If you are one of them, please respond by sending me a PM. Thanks.

By the way... shame on you, Zairina Junid, for the wording of your post.

"the guy you are looking for"... "left Chicago..."

Yes, people do travel. Not sure why that is strange for someone like yourself. You have very little knowledge of me or the situation and seemed to put in "your two cents" after performing a search for my name on Google.

Very classy.
