i find it interesting how people expect to be rewarded for doing the right thing, and yet are amazed when people complain about them doing the wrong thing. you should have returned it (or better still never taken it) because it was the right thing, not because you had to be convinved otherwise.
at least you had the moral fibre to 'fess up, even if it took a while.

maybe so, but why should he expect praise for succumbing to his guilt?

i just find it interesting that people in general expect reward for doing something which should be reward enough in and of itself. i believe a person should be honest for honesty's sake, not so they can say "hey, look how wonderful and self-sacrificing i am."
@ diddy: i really am glad you took the phone back. my one question is were you actually honest enough to admit to the store manager you tried to rip him off, or did you pass it off as a mistake?

@ gelfen:
if you were ever in a situation similar to mine, I bet you would have a real f**ken hard time giving it up. People just talk out of their ass all the time, but the truth is, they aren't given that kind of pressure. When the pressure is really on you, it's hard to do the right thing. EVEN AFTER HAVING THE PHONE, I gave it up. how many true fans would do that? how many supposedly decent people do that? what people don't realize, is now adays, it's ever person for themselves. When people see a priest they think he's holy. When I see a priest I know he's human just like us, and capable of making mistakes. So even though I make be the "bad guy" for taking the phone to begin with, it takes a real man to give it back!

Better late than never.
Good for you!
It's always nice to hear when somebody does the right thing. Do that a few more times and I guarantee that you'll be doing 'the right thing' without even thinking twice. |

@ diddy: it would never have occurred to me to try to take something which wasn't mine. the only pressure in that situation was to keep your temper when the guy said he didn't have your phone. the pressure you refer to is called greed.
like i said, i'm glad for your own sake that you returned the phone. but as for 'it takes a real man to give it back', give me a break
i'd pay that if you actually took responsibilty and admitted your theft to the manager, but anonymous admissions on the internet aren't all that binding.
and don't give me any of that 'it's hard to do the right thing' crap. honesty is the easiest thing in the world - it doesn't even require the effort it takes to think of a lie.
@ universal: so would i, but you can't be too harsh when it comes to self-preservaion.

@hurney, too right! When my old 8210 went back to have its fifth dodgy screen replaced, they had discontinued it and sent a v66 instead. But the next day another one arrived, so l looked after it for a while. Two months later l sold it. I do not believe this is theft, and by now ive paid for it 5 times over with my networks extortionate price/mb gprs charges!

LOL, did you really return it or are you just saying this to not get flamed. I think I would have kept it, to be honest. So I have respect for you if you did bring it back. |

I find it amazing how many pathological liars there are in the internet community. I just checked with my suppliers here in Norway, and they do not even have the T630 LISTED. They have not even registered it as incoming, which means they have not ordered it yet.
And you want me to believe the "GSM backwards country" of the world has got in in spades? I call the bluff, show your cards or get out.
Jesus, stop wasting our time with pathetic stories.

To me it's actually irelevant wether the story is true or not. I think it reflects the honesty of each individual member. Some time ago I raffeled off some P800 items here on Esato due to the fact that I had mine nicked. I was then accused of having stolen my own phone by the same kind of people who shouts "Good on ya mate!" here. To me stealing is causing loss to someone. Shop, innsurance company or private person. It goes for the same.
@diddy0071 Good on ya mate!
