I have a similar problem to this, but I can usually manage to get it work after a bit of meddling... As stated the USB port swopping helped me, but also the firewall thing too... I tend to completely turn it off altogether, not just allow Mrouter access...

Funnily enough, I suffered something similar with my old Psion Series 5... quite differently, I would have to reboot the PC every time I wanted to connect it, after being disconnected... So it may be a general problem with Symbian type stuff (since I believe they were also associated with the Epoc and PsiWin software... or at least there are similarites between the way they both look anyway)

Has it ever worked for you at all?...have you access to another computer to try installing it on, so you can gauge any differences between that system and yours?... and the USB swopping thing, sometimes I have to do it numerous times, a pain I know, but the only way it'll work... try removing all other USB devices or Hubs that you may have too, some systems can't provide enough power otherwise if you are using a scanner or something which also draws power from USB...
There is no human problem which could not be solved if people would simply do as I advise.

I use XP Pro and XP Home - I have never had a problem with either of them connecting to my P800 and now P900. I use both USB amd BT. My only observation is that I only have installed MS Office, Norton Anti Virus and some photo s/w. No personal firewall or games.

I should say I had the same situation with my Psions; I used Win95 & Win98SE. Again no real problems. I assume SE are unable to test the PC Suite s/w in all the possible environments that users may have and therefore for some people it can be a nightmare to make PC Suite work (don't believe the stories that the Palm s/w works fine, I know people who have never been able to link their PCs to their Palms!).

In case you didn't see it another person who had problems with XP has finally found a solution. He/she had to re-install it and then PC Suite worked fine! Look here -> http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=42297&forum=35&start=20

Good luck

I have tried everything. My XP Pro is up-to-date with all the patches. I shut down the firewall and disabled the antivirus. I tried the P800's desk stand. I followed the P900 manual's instructions and installed the stand before PC suite. I set the baud rate according to the manual's recommendations.
I've installed and uninstalled, used the latest PC Suite software and the P800's.
I took the phone, my laptop, desk stand and manual with me to the dealer. They put the phone in their P800 stand and it worked there.
Maybe it's an issue with XP.
I'm at my wits end here.

I know its fustrating. I think you should try not just to disable but remove the firewall app (ie unistall it fully). If you connected via a router you're probably already protected with the router's firewall. Try to re-install PC Suite and see what happens. As I said the last resort is to re-install XP, which is a big task. Sorry mate.

Iīve got the same problem like Omar. I already emailed Customer care support but it seems as if the people there are only working on weekdays since I havenīt received a response yet.

I spent so much time the past couple of days with installing, uninstalling, re-installing PC Suite and SyncStation drivers, connecting cradle, disconnecting cradle and though itīs not working. Sometimes Iīm lucky and PC Suite recognizes my phone when booting but most of the time it says connected on COM Port 5 but PC Suite doesnīt bother to connect to the phone. And if itīs connected I can only synchronize my appointsments and contacts. Backup e.g. is not possible because phone is rebooted during the backup process and afterwards iīve got the same connection problem again and backup fails.

I donīt know what SonyEricsson were thinking when were they putting this one big pile of shit called PC Suite together but I know one thing for certain: this software is straight from hell.

And yes I do bother to reinstall my home PC system because why should I touch a well running system just because SonyEricsson are so unable.

Btw I just found an installation log of the Monitor thing. There some strange lines in it. Maybe one is aware of what that means and can tell me if that could be a reason why it isnīt working:

Could not Self-Register: C:\Programme\Sony EricssonP900\Mobile\Mobile Phone Monitor\ECSCM07Q.dll

Shared DLL counter ignored:
File Overwrite: C:\WINDOWS\system32\psapi.dll

I can see you are fustrated but you cannot expect SE to test PC Suite in all possible user environements. Many people have solved the problem by unistalling third party s/w such as firewalls. Sorry to hear about your problems. Can you say a bit more about anti virus, firewall, OS, etc.

Windows XP Home SP1
Anti-virus deinstalled
ZoneAlarm deactivated
Epocware PC File Manager deinstalled

The joke is everything worked fine with the P800. But I was such an idiot to deinstall the old PC Suite version and replace it with the new one. If I had just let everything like it was and had just put my P900 in the cradle of the old SyncStation.

Maybe something is messed up in the registry. Beside the strange error lines in the installation log all the files in Mobile Phone Monitor folder are highlighted blue in the Windows Explorer.

After all Iīm sure at this point that this is not a hardware issue of the phone but rather an PC Suite / XP / USB issue. Serial connection with Bluetooth worked perfectly and smoothly and access via Epocware File Manager to the phone is also possible. Only applications that rely on mRouter and PC Suite do not work like synchronisation, RemotePx00, backups.

I don't use a firewall on my PC & laptop as my ADSL modem has one. I have heard people here at Easto say that they had to unistall Zone Alarm and re-install PC Suite (after uninstalling it) before it would work. Why not try this?

Edit: have a look at this old thread http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=22243&forum=35#post297152 it has a solution explained. Skabbe has been critical of me because I keep linkeing to historic threads but they contain valuable information.

Jah, thank you so much.

I thought deactivating ZoneAlarm was enough but when I destalled it and reinstalled PC Suite my phone was immediately detected.

When I deinstalled ZoneAlarm there was a message that one part of the program was shut down (TrueVector Internet monitor) though as I said I didnīt run ZoneAlarm at all but obviously that part of the program was active though.

I completely uninstalled Zone Alarm and reinstalled PC suite (after uninstalling it). That didn't solve the problem. USB connected, P900 not connected.
Since you guys have tried your hand at everything I'm waiting for 's response.

There is another point, the usb drivers are for the DSS_20 while the sync station stand is the DSS-25. Don't know if it has anything to do with it but I've added it to my series of emails to who are still looking into it.

it's your COM port, I saw here exactlythe same thing with XP SP1 with all the patches etc, AV running etc. USB said connected but no P900 was detected.

Turned out I forgot to enable access to physical com ports in XP (we have our own security software to do this), although the driver of the DSS20 uses a virtual com port driver, you might check your BIOS settings what is configured for COM.

Next step is remove the COM ports in the device manager, reboot, let com ports be redetected.

In my case, once I enabled COM ports, the P900 popped up! I can provide you with a tiny tool to test if you have really access to your COM ports or not. (write me to my hotmail address, same as my username with hotmail suffix)

ps: you do NOT need admin to USE your P900, just for installing you need admin rights.
