According to the white paper on the below link the P800 will support larger Duo capacities - only current limitation being 128mb is currently largest size.

Yep, it's there look on page 13
"Memory Internal, available for applications: 12 MB
Memory Stick Duo: Currently up to 128 MB, but will most likely increase"

That link to the hipcam feature says it's for the 3650 - not much use for P800!

Well, I hope the 128MB limit on the P800 is just because there are no available 256 or larger Duos...
Let's HOPE that Sony didn't screw that idea up.
having 256MB, or larger, is VERY different from having 2 x 128MB Duos... imagine having to remove your 1 GB hard drive and swap it out everytime?!?!? That would be annoying.
At least with a 256MB, 512MB, or 1GB Duo... we could actually keep MP3s, Videos, apps, Encyclopaedias, games, and non-P800 files on the Duo and have instant access to all of it! |

I dont like all my eggs in one basket, add on memory has got a larger rist of failure or getting lost, comparing it with your PC's hard drive is not really a fair comparison, its a common fact that the larger the memory card the more prone to failure they are, i think its something to do with voltage sensitivity, so my electronics engineer brother tells me. He says the 1gig cards have temperature issues.

The HD is just a large scale version of an MSD. of course the HD is heavier and might be easier to slip in if the computer has a docking station for the HD. On the other hand, the MSD is minute and so is its 'drive'.
How hot the larger MSD would depend on the material being used by SE. And I'm sure if the 1GB MSDs are released, it wouldn't be that hot after extended use that we can't touch it Nor will it be hot enough so data would be lost.
(on the other hand if you live in a country near or in the equitorial region then your MSD would be hotter compared to people living in a colder climate. and if we're going to assume that the increasing size of the MSD is proportional to the temperature then in this case the MSD would be more prone to a breakdown or data loss =)
Anyway, just making assumptions. Why don't we just wait for the larger MSDs and enjoy them

If i cut my bread small enough, i could toast it in the MSD slot, the nearer the equator the darker the toast. |

if SE release a newer phone with the capability of MSD-128 or above, i'm sure most of the present P800 users will sell off their devices and get the new one... |

As far as i was aware the s/w is not to blame on this issue. Memory sticks are limited to 128MB. The MSD is a small MS, thats why you can have an adaptor that makes it larger, so it is also limited to 128Mb. This is why sony released a 256Mb MS card that had a switch to select 1 of 2 128Mb banks, because of this limit. Sony are bringing out a memory stick pro (MSP) that supports much larger capacities, but wether the p800 has been future proofed for this updated tech i don't know, and if a 256Mb duo comes out it wouldn't surprise me if it also had to switch between 128Mb banks. |
