As far as i am concerned, those that know about ericsson and sony ericsson...the reputaion....and everything....they go and use ericsson.

its like word of mouth and just generally there is little SE advertising......so those that do use SE...like us lot...generally know that its better..

i hope that made some sense....i couldnt quite phrase what i was trying to say.

Yes indeed... has very poor marketing whereas it has strong after sales marketing. Exactly the opposite is Nokia's policy. Although now is trying to change that poor marketing strategy.
Feature wise I don't like/want any present Nokia phone. They have nothing to offer which can make me say "wow, I want it". This thing happened twice with phones: once with t68 and now with p800. I believe that developers are more hi-tech oriented compared to Nokia's who trying to offer constantly the good old recipie:trendy phones, attractive to new ages and women....

Hi guys,

I had a Nok5110 since the beginning, and my mum had a first generation Nokia digital phone, it's like a brick, but I am not blaming it, cos that was the first generation.

I think Nokia has been very smart at the beginning, as they knew people would love to have a large screen, even since the one my mum had, and my 5110 many years ago. These phones all have a square screen, with multi line display, which is very important when it comes to user interactivity. Just imagine, if your computer screen can only do 800 x 200, or 1024 x 350, would you like to use it? I don't think so. Nokia has put in functions that require a large screen, and the large screen has accomodated the functions, such as SMS composing, address book (name an number on same page), Games (snake), etc. This kind of eye plesant interactivity has attracted alot of new mobile users. People would show their Nok phones to friends, and the screen content has done the marketing already.

For Ericsson phones, one of them I had is the 768 (the flip phone with 4 colors options), it has one line display, though small in size, quality was not as good as 5110, where those phones were in the same era. Erisson has been making sleek design, compact size phones, from beginning to the just-gone T39. Flip cover, rectangular display. I would imagine, Ericsson phones(not SE), was good for those who need a phone for mobile conversation, or data service. but doing PIM on the phone is not as easy as doing the same thing on a Nokia phone.

Until lately, Sony and Ericsson has come together, and SE has made phones like R600, then T68, T68i, T100, T300, T200, T600, P800. These phones all have larger screen than old Eri phones, and it is where SE has picked up. It is an unavoidable trend, the screen has to be large, input has to be easy, and customisable(shortcuts). Nokia has been playing the fashion cards since 8210. Just look at the marketing of 8210 and 8250, their boxes, the way they shot the TV commericals. It has more fashion element than function element.

8210, then morph to 8250. 8310 and 6510. 6610 and 7210. All same stories here.

The situation has swapped, where people who want to have a phone just for talking, SMS would use Nokia, but for those who want innovation, may want to try SE, cos it is what SE is doing. Of course, I would say the 7650 was a brave try for Nokia, to be the first camera built-in phone, but if you look at the spec, u know they rushed it, the size, the incapability of use external storage media, the small size of internal memory, the incapability of using bluetooth audio profile.

they are both good for different people out there. We have grandma, who wants a very simple phone, then get her a Nok3310 then, its dirt cheap, and anyone with 10 mins training can use it. The reason why I've got a T68i is cos I need the functions, colour screen is a bonus and relatively small size as well.

nokia is still the winner. checkout the company's income and profits and consider the millions of avid, hardcore and loyal nokia fans around the world. hard to beat even for any combined mobile phone company out there.
more people (masses) buying a product, more profits and the company prosphers. the less people (niche) buying a product, the company will loose money and will eventually close down like what almost happened to Ericsson but thanks to sony which caters mostly to the masses.

For me, there's room for everyone. Now more than ever, Nokia's Fred Flintstone technology is starting to show. However they package it... their pathetic attempt at a 3G phone is sad.

They are playing their cards right though. They make phones for the masses...nothing more. They're actually very similar to Toyota that way. Nokia makes the cars for the masses, then they made Vertu for the ultra rich. Toyota makes cars for the masses, then they have their luxury line, Lexus. I'd say Nokia=Toyota, Ericsson/SE=Benz

Some people prefer Lexus over Benz... others Toyota. Hey, it's a free market. Nokia is very aggressive with their handset market because it makes up 78% of their income, as opposed to only 10% for Ericsson. Now, SE is a different story. SE may be a separate entity from it's parent companies, but it is also a test bed for all the new technologies that both parent companies have to offer. SE is less than 2 years old!!! And it's already increasing market share.

But I feel, just like Ericsson, SE is catering to a niche market. I personally like it. Not everyone needs the technology that SE has to offer. And sometimes, the basic functions of Nokia aren't enough. So there's a brand for everyone!

I'd hate it if EVERYONE on the planet had the same phone. How boring would that be!?!?!? Even worse... if everyone had different brands of phones, but they all looked the same!!!!

I'm glad SE is still the leader in innovation. I'm glad I bought the P800. (BTW, personal note, the Handy Day app is worth it!) I'm glad Nokia is there as well to push SE into designing better looking phones. I'm just happy that the industry competition is strong enough that all the players are moving fast.

you know, if everyone i knew had a SE phone then what fun would there be. no bluejacking Also why would they innvoate. Just make the phones so crap that they must be replaced every year or so and voilá - one big fat rich company. like microsoft or ford.

right now nokia is forced to make lost of crap phones so people buy them every 18mnths. SE is forced to make their phones look good and appeal to more of a consumer market.

as someone else said before - SE is like apple, and i own a mac (and a soon to be t68i, SE t100)

@holybear

No problem to what you are saying, except the fact that the t68 is made and disigned originally by Ericsson and not the joint venture Sony Ericsson. The same is for T100 T65, all with big screens. The joint venture made after the release of t68

have always had ericssons (g628 A1018s T28 now a T68i) and ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN 100% RELIABLE!!!! I guess thats why i have had only 4 phones in 5 years.

When i dropped the T28 down 3 flights of stairs in work the flip didn't even break ( lucky maybe)!! In comparison friends have nokias, 8210 springs to mind and they were dogs screens falliing out software problems etc.

some say i have just been lucky but reliabillity is a rare thing and i'm gonna stick with S.E!!!!

I have had Nokias in the past, and I am on Orange, since moving to S.E. products, it is the first time I have not had to get orange to replace the phone due to various problems.

And in some cases - 7110 (perfect example) I had a few more than one replacements, in-fact with this very model I had it replaced about 6 times

And what about the stylish Ericsson and SE design? They are absolutely beautiful!!!! Nokia looks like a peace of junk or a toy! Ericsson is not only a phone - it's a work of ART!!!!!

I'll tell you what I like about my t68i and my P800. None of my friends have them. All Nokia phones seem to look the same, whereas I think Sony Ericsson make a new phone every time.
