i've had MMS and GPRS on from Oct02 (O2 monthly)....
What do they mean you can't have both those idiots? Dont they know that you need to have GPRS in order to have MMS?

MMS works using the GPRS to send out ths data....

anyway, i realised that I can have free GPRS WAP surfing by subscribing to MMS.... I dont use MMS at all during the free promo period.... just lotsa WAP surfing that's all. And now that the free MMS is over, I can still use GPRS for WAP..... and i guess that won't be chargable since I NEVER subscribed to GPRS.... So, FREE GPRS FOR ME! (and i guess all of you on O2)

I'm guessing they allow wap gprs to come out of your free mins, that you would have for wap anyway on pay-go tarriff.
I haven't gone over 300 mins yet so will see when I do.
The reality of gprs is that it is 99% of the time no faster than dial-up.

To exceed 9kb you will need to pinch more timeslots, and there is very few avaliable, people on Orange/Tmobile are more likely to have luck, because the 1800mhz system requires more cell sites, so more timeslots.
The whole thing is overated, as usual
The single biggest advantage is that you can recieve calls while surfing, but only if you are not actually downloading as the call comes in.

Has anyone managed to get o2 GPRS (wap or GPRS) to work on a p800 withn Opera? I am having major issues at the moment.

I can get the inbuilt browser to work on o2 GPRS WAP, but not on real web sites. THen i can get it to browse real web sites only when i change the preferred account to o2 MMS. Both are not costing me any money, on PAYG sim.

thanks.

Hi,
I have both MMS and GPRS enabled on O2 PAYG.
I received the 'User Barred' error when trying to send an MMS and this was because MMS wasn't enabled. Phoned O2 (50p per minute) and within 3 minutes it was all sorted. About 2 hours later i could send MMS Messages and also browse using GPRS.
Good Luck.

k guys heres how it is:

o2 have the following services for customers :

GPRS
MMS
MOBILE WEB

what they actually have is just :

GPRS
MOBILE WEB

heres each one explained:

GPRS - standard gprs service used for o2 active and as the bearer for MMS

MOBILE WEB - this is a GPRS service which is configured to allow full IP/TCP traffic through it,something GPRS doesnt. it is also charged at an extremely cheap rate as it is designed for business users.

if u ping the wap.o2.co.uk and mobile.o2.co.uk then ull see theyre different servers. mms server is configured to only use wap.o2.co.uk and its bearer.

so what does this all mean?

well simply if you want MMS then you can as long as you dont want mobile web.

for p800 users it means if you want to use opera then you gotta have mobile web but you cant have mms and vice versa.

the main thing not to do is to ring o2 and ask for mms AND gprs. just ask for MMS and then that comes with GPRS

think that all makes sense. if not i shall prepare for the flaming that seems to happen at the drop of a hat these days on esato

Hey everyone.
I dont have gprs or anything. I have a prepaid phone with cingular, the Sony ericsson T226. I want to be able to do MMS and send pictures and stuff. Is ther any that i can set it up without asking cingular because they will probably say no. I also want to know about the o2 service or whatever its called. I see you guys are talking about it and i would like to know some information on it. Like do you pay a monthly fee for it? I just want to be able to download ringtones and send MMS, pics etc. thanks
