My Saito runs fine, they could do with tidying up a few of the quirks, but I'm not hitting any problems. I really don't purchase so close after relaease and expect not to hit problems. |

I'd love to get a Satio, ive always wanted a S60 SE. I totaly support the Satio, but simply going by what ive read i feel SE havent done their best, but i would like to see this product succeed, for both SE and Symbian.

Clearly SE have done their best though if you think about it. They've taken their own powerful hardware and added a popular OS which has years of experience behind it.
Dont think because the Satio for some people has some major issues its only this particular handset. All touch screen S60 devices have had many many issues. I dont think SE have made many mistakes at all with the Satio - Symbian have by not fully developing an interface which is up to date with their competitors.

My Satio is also running well. Ok, the battery standby time isn't great, but that's about all complaint I have. I have installed various apps, like Key Lock Clock, Best blacklist, Gdesk, Flashlight, Level, GTx, and no probs. My handset is made week 41.
Oh, and all my standby themes work flawless.
The bluetooth reception is more then excellent. I claim it's twice as good as the P1, and that's not necessary. Also the WiFi reception is way better then the P1. This is things that affect battery life.
My wishlist:
I would like to be able to do a setting in a specific profile, and then this setting is only present in that profile, like having the screen lit when in the car on the charger (I have made a profile called "In the car"). I was able to do that 10 years ago on my Ericsson 868!
I also miss the voice command to call a contact.
I really hope they update the radio app. It's boring looking, and the lack of RDS is embarrassing.
I'm not that upset over the lack of EQ in the Music player, I really like the sound setting, but it SHOULD be there! But I would like a sleep timer!
The inbuilt browser is weird. Make Opera Mobile 10 default! Or let us choose that.
I can probably come up with more if I try real hard.... |

The Satio DOES have a menu that lets you change a number of default applications, which would allow you to change the video player, web browser, music player and picture viewer - but you can't select Opera Mobile here.
I wonder if Opera is aware of this feature, which doesn't seem to be on my I8910 HD. This would actually be great if you could replace all the rubbish S60v5 default apps with better ones - and might just save the Satio.
How many people even know the menu is there though? (It's Settings/Phone/Application Settings/Default Applications)

Well, what do you know! I didn't know that, and probably a lot more people too! Seems the options just aren't enabled just yet, FW update? |

I guess it's a case of wait and see - besides Opera there isn't really anything else out there to replace the other apps with.
Android on the other hand, a very new OS, has lots of music players and video players available now.
I see that www.my-symbian.com has given up even updating its website with new Series 60 apps - there are so few.

Yeh ... found it late last night, but as mine's still working ok thought I'd leave it
alone until I'd done some "research" today !!!

The menu to change the default menu is there but unfortunately you cannot do much
It lets you change but in the list there is only 1 appllication.
I have installed Opera Mobile and I find it decent in some cases. I wanted to change, but not showing up on the list of applications to change. So I cannot change. So, whether the application is there or not it is not working properly.

On the sticker behind the battery (i.e. on the phone).

I think the Satio is just a deserving victim of higer expectations from modern smartphones. Some of the "hardcore" users here are well versed in all the usual niggles and snags that have come with every new smartphone (particularly Symbian or Windows Mobile smartphones) for years, and aren't too fazed by the Satio's bugs, or even overlook them. But the thing is, smartphones aren't just the preserve of those people anymore, they've gone mainstream. Satio is competing with phones running much newer, slicker OSs and coming off badly in the comparison. People used to dumb phone reliability or the likes of an iPhone or Android device just aren't going to put up with all those old Symbian quirks, so for them it's just a case of putting it back in the box and chucking it back at the shop.
The good old days of geeks like us having "patience" with buggy new smartphones and perservering to "get the best" out of a flawed new device are over - the bar has been set too high already.

+1 Million
However as Boinng absolutely nails - The Game has Changed and it seems SE and Nokia still cannot get their heads round this, smartphones are not a niche segement anymore over the next upgrade cycles they will become the majority handsets and therefore not just in the hands of fanatical minorities who will tolerate any flaw in their beloved manufacturer's handsets. Apple got this and clamped down on certain functionality and the way Apps access the OS in the intersts of stability and this is the key aspect - it's no good having a great OS (and symbian isn't) if it's not stable and easy to use, the public simply won't tolerate it. See the decline in WM. The retail shops have no interest other than stocking the most popular, best selling handsets which give them the least trouble - ie generate the most profit.
It's no good listening to the fanbois' usual screeching on here that there's an anti SE global (ususally featuring Eldar as leader) conspiracy. The recent AdMob data linked to in another thread shows the parlous state SE and some other manufacturers are in. However the one sinking fastest along with SE are Nokia who at least unlike SE have some buffer in market share (though not for much longer if they continue with fiascos like N97). Yes I think SE have been a bit harshly treated in the instance of the Satio it's no worse (actually better) than the N97 when released (and that has been dropped by Voda) but SE are reaping the reward of their poor reputation earned through handsets like K850 P990 etc . In the real world of the market place away from the fanbois' late night fantasy dreams and conspiracy theories SE simply doesn't cut it. As a long time owner of SE/E products and admirer of their inovation years ago I hope they can turn it around but I'm not sure that the wait hasn't been too long and the world hasn't turned too far for them to regain that inovative edge, at the moment they're running to catch up and not making it.

I guess that even if these problems may ask merely for a firmware update it's already a big big shame for SE if we consider how much time it took in order to this phone to hit the shelves. They kept every loyal SE costumer on hold, just waiting for it. I have ordered a independently imported one, for which I am still waiting to arrive, and now I am completely lost here.
Will SE provide ways for those customers who bought it through several auction sites or independent importers of getting their devices repaired in the case of a troughout recall?
Ragarding the S60 v5 discussion, it's not fair comparing it to previous models from other manufacturers running the same OS. SE should have learnt with those early mistakes before realeasing the Satio. They had more than enough time to make sure that the phone would behave nicely upon its realease. Going further, if SE were to bet all its money on it, I guess now that they should fire all the team in charge of testing/developing. Anyone here @ this forum would certainly be a much more productive employee for SE than any of its inborn testers.
I feel really disappointed by SE. For those who gave a look at the Satio Launch Blog, it's very frustrating not to see a single word from SE there now. Priorly to its launch everything was absolutely nice, the phone performed nicely in all SE's videos and all the criticism was regarded as biased. A legion of Satio's lickers kept on defending it night and day, but now they're gone. I bet that if my Satio needs to be recalled, I will loose all the money I've spent on it.
SE, if that's true, you've just lost one of those loyal customers of yours, and if that happens, I will never come back again. Besides, I'll do my very best to keep people from buying a SE again.
