Nope!

Today, I got there at 8.20am

Worked till 2.30pm

Had 45mins break (25 of which are spent getting home and back)

then worked from 3.05pm till 5.50pm

Got in about 6.05

Walked dog till 6.30

Only just sat down!

Best thing is, I get to repeat this tomorrow lol.

I mean, I'm looking forward to getting a new car and kitting it out, so I want to work the hours.

However:

A. I get paid for 9-5, so I don't get paid for the extra 60mins I worked today.

B.
They have not mentioned money yet, I don't know when I get paid or anything.
All's I know is I get £5.75 an hour.

I think tomorrow afternoon I may mention it and just ask, does anyone here know if I'm likely to be paid weekly or monthly?

Here's my plan for the next week:

Tomorrow: 8.20am - 5pm

Sat-sun: off

Monday: working late, so 11.30am to 8.10pm

Tue
Wed
Thur - In norwich these 3 days, so up at 6am, in around 7pm

Friday 8.30am - 5pm

Sat and sun 9am till closing.

I'm used to living on £95 for 2 weeks...I've basically just earnt that in 2 days, so it's not all bad

Managed to hold this for 2 weeks now, a record for me lol!

There's a few things you learn quite quickly, like A:

I really really don't care what a customer thinks lol, for example a lady phoned up, I answered and she wanted a battery for her car, I ran her plate in the computer, saw we had 2 batteries in stock.
She wanted it fitting right there and then, about 4.50pm, I told her we couldn't do that as the fitter is only in 9-12 in the morning.
She started moaning saying how we've just lost her business and she'll go somewhere else.

Ok...why do I give a f*ck lol!

Go somewhere else, I couldn't care less...means I don't have to write her details down

Same with others as well, they ask if we sell something, I say "No sorry we don't stock that"

and they get all arsey and say things like "Right, useless, what a waste of a trip then".
Seriously, do people not realise that staff just serve, that's it, they don't care!
It's not my fault if I we don't stock something lol.

It's not bad working there, 1 boss is to controlling, every time I ask for the keys he asks what model sat nav I've sold, then tells me to convince them to buy a case.
Which I don't do, because the case is £15, it's an extortionate price.
He also gets really short tempered if I ask questions, like, when is the fitter going to be in so I know when to book cars in.
Good question right? Useful to know right?

Apparently never a good time to ask that.

But the other manager is allright, he's more of a mate kind of boss, happy to help, have a laugh etc.

So ye, tell your parents or girlfriends etc, in halfords, we try to sell you accessories with sat navs.
Halfords make no money on sat navs, they make all their money on accessories, so they pay their staff money to sell accessories.

For example, if I sell a sat nav, I get nothing.

If I sell a sat nav and 1 accessory, I get £2

Sat nav and 2 accessories, I get £4

I've lost out on about £15 so far because they didn't show me how to log down the transaction numbers to get the money, but I thought i'd tell all.
So when your parents go shopping, let them know that they will get a whole speech about protecting the screen, warranty etc etc, just ignore it and buy a case online for a fiver.

Oh, and they keep loads of accessories, like the £50 tomtom traffic reciever, just chucked by the back door, damn it's tempting just to take it every day...but I'm not like that

I have worked in retail before at a couple of well known electrical retailers. When I did it you got more commission on certain items so sales people would do their best to sell you that one item even if it wasnt right for you. Also made three times as much commission on selling a warrenty with a telly than I would get for the telly itself.

It's right at all, it works because the company gets money, you get money...so that's all happy!

What about the customer, which in some cases are people like our mums who go in and get sold some crap that's not right for them.

That's why it doesn't bother me too much about getting commission, I'll sell them what they want and that's that.
