I finally got a job |

Tomorrow the job centre was signing me up for a full time ymca course because I haven't found a job since Jan time.
Got a call from Halfords today, said they didn't want to send me a letter for a few reasons and could I come in.
Went in today, and they offered me a full time/full length contract job, pay isn't great at £5.70 an hour, but hey..it's a full time job
I have to travel up to Norwich next week to meet with people from Navman, garmin and tomtom so they can show me their products etc and train me, then I come back and work full time in my local store.
After my probation period of 3 months, I get a title of ICT Specialist
I don't know weather I'm excited or nervous as I've never worked before..ever, so my first job is a full time one.
Took about 10 months but I got there

Thanks guys,
Yea I heard back from the RAF but they wanted me to start the process this month, which would mean missing my holiday so they said so come back next year.
I hope I'll love this job, I'll be working with the sat navs, stereos and in car computers, all of which I think are pretty cool...anything like that I like.
Another reason they are sending me to the Norwich store is because apparently it's twice as big and 4 times as busy, and they said they want to drop me in at the deep end.
I was going to tax and insure my car to drive up to Norwich (bout 25miles from my house) but the fact is, i'm only there for 4 days, so I may see what the earliest train is and see if I can get there by train.

O well, least I'm not a bum any more lol, I hated it when people said "So what are you doing now"....."looking for work"...."Oh, like 6months back?"
"yes, just like 6 months back"

When you start work get in touch with your HR department and get your proper tax code and ring the local tax people.
Emergency tax is about 25% which is too much to do without.
Congratulations and btw all tax suck balls.

Thanks all
Yes that is indeed the Halfords, just the the right and down a bit (slightly off that map) is the train station...I think that's the one I need to get to.
But as they can't get the satnav people in till next week, I start at my local store from wed till sunday, then up to norwich next week.
I'm a bit stumped about this tax, my mum seems to think that I start on emergency tax, and then they auto sort it out in a few months, put me on the correct code and then send me a rebate?
She says that there's no need to phone them as they sort it out....but I'm not keen on that method lol, I'd like to make sure that I'm put on the correct tax band asap.
I been thinking bout all the things I can buy lol, I'm used to £42.50 a week to buy my food and clothes, now I can pre-order fable 2...wooo

Congrats on the job
As for the pay, given you have never had a job and your what, 20-something now, I wouldn't ever complain about how much you're getting paid
I had no idea you and weirdwilli live so near me, I'm in Ipswich, so if you have to travel 'up' 25 miles to get to Norwich, you can't be that far from me
And weirdwilli, you can tell you're so young lol, who else would give out their home address, WITH A MAP no less lol, to the entire world?
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

Yes well done congrats think you deserved it after all the hard work you kept putting in. I remember the posts you put in here getting stressed. Its not always that easy to find a job these days despite what this bloody government goes on about. Did you ever hear of the story about the man who sent off over 1,000 applications and got nowhere. True story. Anyway stick with it even if you dont like it stay with it till you get something else. Good luck. |
