K850 is FAAR from "same as w960"... You can't compare those 2... W960 is smartphone and totally different in OS and performance compared to K850... W960 has better processor power, A LOOT more RAM memory, bigger screen (touch sensitive too)...
Duh! "sound is great same as W960i" Can't you read |

I used to have a K850i and I now have a W890i. I would recommend that you get a W890i though. The K850i's keypad is crap. The touch sreen stopped working for me and the plastic around keys lifted up. This happened twice on two different K850i's which made me wanna change phones altogether. Had no problems with the W890i. It's a wicked phone, so smart, so sleek, slim and it's great for music and the camera ain't bad either. No comparison really. |

@TeenInvader
You probably had a bad one. Now, I'm not saying that all the W890is are perfect but in comparison to the K850is they're far stable from the onset while the K850is have been a nightmare to say the least.
@Monn
Hi and welcome!
I agree with you on the W890i, it is a lovely phone. I have never had it freeze on me or reboot. I have never had a single problem whatsoever. Like I mentioned before it's drawbacks are the tiny sounding speaker and the weak vibrate alert, other than that it is a great little phone.

In all fairness, there shouldn't be any competition between these two phones.
The K850i is on paper the better phone by quite a margin, but it's had too many problems- some of which still persist even today- that the W890i tends to be the better solution.

The K850i is a god of a phone. It is something special, everything about it's perfect. I love it's touch screen buttons, and the glossy finish, it feels so nice when you hold it. and looks nice when freshly polished. Why would you go for the W890? I mean, that's really not that better, OK it's advertised as a Walkman phone, big deal the sound quality is the same as the K850i same with the layout of the media player. Oh wow they get a short cut button, K850i has one on the left touch button. But you'd expect that much from a Walkman phone. A Cyber-shot phone e.g.K850i has a dedicated On/Off switch which you can use when the phone is locked.
Anyway it is such a lovely phone, and if they discontinued it (has this been proved?) It just makes it a rare phone, like the W900i. The K850i is better then all SE phones out there (apart from the C905, but ah ha, that's not out yet) C902 is rubbish, C702 don't even get me started what's the point in it. The K850i to sum up, beats all SE Phones currently on the market. That's the truth, just face it.
 So yeah get the K850i It's an amazing phone!
I don't share your enthusiasm for this phone. It's excessively thick, the two-tone styling is naff, the odd D-pad is unecessarily complicated and the touchscreen buttons are a gimmick. Quite frankly it gets annihilated by the N95 and N82 on spec, value for money, camera quality, reliablity and wow factor. The K850 will not be remembered as fondly as the legendary W900i or the K750i, far from it in fact.
W890i and C702 are both great mid-range phones and C902 is quite a stunning achievement actually. A 5.0Mp camera, HSDPA and semi-slider form factor in a 10mm phone is quite an amazing innovation IMO.
For those who have K850i's that work, good for them. But with the forthcoming phones like X1, C905, G705, W595 and W902, the K850i will be quickly forgotten.
I'd take the W890i and pocket the 30 Euro or wait for one of the Q4 releases next month.

Contradicting yourself, because you say how the W900i is a legend but it was very big, and you say how that is a bad thing? The N95 looses on camrea quality, it may have less noise but this is because they smooth it over thus loosing detail at the same time. Also they are over coloured and are too rich. On the K850i (like many SE phones) you can edit your picture to make it better using Photo DJ
C702, OK why does SE go back to old technology? Why a rubbish camera, I don't understand
C902, This may be 'nice' and thin however this means that the speaker is worse and the battery will be not as powerful. Plus the screen is a good 0.2 inches smaller. And I personally don't find the thinner ones better to hold. So yes maybe thin you would say is better, but why is it? All it means that the specs on it will be lowered basically. The sensor for the camera is also worse then that of the K850i. OK you may not be happy with it but I am. (especially as I got it for 75 pounds but that's not related to this topic) |

The W900i is legendary because of what it was back in 2005 when thickish 3G phones were common. It's now 2008 and IMO K850i is excessively thick and SE obviously think so too because the C902 is much thinner. The C905 is the same depth at it's thickest point as the K850i yet incorporates a slide mechanism, 8.1 Mp and Wifi.

And I suppose your going to say how great the C905 is? Well you go ahead and do that, however everyone was saying how K850i was amazing until it came out. So just wait for the C905 to come out so you can really see if it's good or not. The k850i was made and designed at the start of 2007 (probably end of 2006 learning the technology etc) the C902 came out a year after that. And yes, a lot can change in a year. The K850i was the first to have new technology, and so it will be thick but the next ones down like C902 will be thinner. This is just like the W900i 3G phone now the 3G phones can be very thin, but back then when they had just got the technology they did not improve on it to make it smaller etc. What I am saying is, the W890i made be thin, but it had very little or in fact like no new technology and that is why I also dislike it. Sony Ericcson are going backwards, they should be going forward like they did with the W900i and the K850i
